Is this guy a forum friend here?
« on: February 24, 2018, 08:19:39 PM »
Saw this on Instagram today. Just wondering if Matt is a member here? This is some major air with a very old frame and no mods that I can see. Just wondering how it is holding up after looking through the Instagram feed.

I'm calling BS on that one. I have a friend that made similar pictures of him on his Massey Furgerson tractor.

its obviously fake, gotta have a super fast shutter to freeze those knobby tyres stationary?imagine that lump coming down, its hard enough on a long travel suspension bike set up for it with 2/3 the mass?

He does look too far back and to the left go be coming off that..plus the ground ain't chewed up..
I dont think it takes a lot of shutter speed to catch those tires

I do see a bike in a photo studio. If the jump is photoshopped, Its a good job. I thought I saw signs of a clipping path under his leg but that can be explained by the sun angle.

I can't come out and call the guy a liar but a few tings I find curious.  I read no modifications, assuming no boring over, high performance this and that added.  If that's the case, can the bike pull off the speed and torque needed to drive up hill(per the picture background) then jump an incline  and achieve that kind of air.  My stock CB550 wouldn't

Also there are no tire tracks.  That would mean the jumper and the photographer would have to be in perfect position for a jump/photo op which is not on a normal track / bike path on the first try.

Lastly where is the jump/hill.  That little hump in the picture wouldn't likely give you that kind of air, especially before you reach it.

I guess anything is possible and maybe we don't' have the overall bigger picture,  but based on the single picture, it seems unlikely.

there's a photo of that same jump site on the instagram with him and his mate behind him.  looks like the top of a wooden ramp where rider #2 is about to catch air.   https://www.instagram.com/p/BfAMIg2hDrV/?taken-by=matty_mac

Now that makes more sense.  Still would a stock only SOHC4 get this kind of air?  Mine seems a little heavy and under powered for something like this. Meaning I believe the jump now but not sure about the status of the bike.   In any case, he has got a bigger set than me.  Not sure i would try that on my bike.   Dirt bike? Combo bike? maybe, but not my 550f.

You Know he bottomed out the forks and the shocks when he landed... and the frame would have had some stress on it too. The first photo does look like a pro photoshop job though, IMO. I looked at all the pics, and blew them up, the handlebar grip in relation to the front brake lever just doesn't look right.

yeah if you watch some of the videos and listen to the motor it doesn't sound like a stock setup.  although the curb jump shows stock airbox from what i can see.  if the guy weighs 175 lbs he's lifting nearly 700 lbs pretty damn high.

Hard to say. As a retoucher it doesn’t look like it’s been masked or it was masked well. Image is too low quality to really zoom in though. But he’s looking directly at the camera, that’s odd. I bet he’s being suspended or something and that was removed.

If it’s legit that’s a lot of air. And depending how he landed the bike may have not survived, haha.

The bike can do it, but it can suffer,
My XL 350  did about 12 plus drops like this at 40 plus miles per hour, it looked sort of stock and survived.
I suspect it bent a bit.
It was used in the scene in the Tron Legacy trailer and in the movie, dressed up as a ducati.
Look up the trailer you will see it on a big jump. About 20 seconds in.

Watch the movie trailer clip, the Honda did not pretzel in 12 or more tries.

I can’t for the life of me see why that “light green patch” shows up on the rear underside of the seat. The rest of the underside is blacked out. Oh wait...might it be the Zig Zag man? Or Elvis?

The guy is matty mcferran, one of Australia's top freestyle motocross riders. I sent him an email a couple of weeks ago about his cb 650 and he told me that it is stock.

Is it legit? I don't know, could be. Its too hard to tell on this low res image. Here is what I do see:

Lots of retouching evidence around the body. Left, outside forearm. Right side shirt where it meets the pants. The rim light coming from the backlit sun is too strong on the butt, leg areas, looks like clipping evidence. Reflection on the underside of the back of the seat is too strong. Bottom of the back wheel is perfectly separated from the background.

In any case, fake or not, It is done by a professional photographer and professionally retouched. It could be real and just overworked by the retoucher. Sometimes they don't know when to say when!

But,every time I look at it, I see a bike laying on its side and a rider laying on his back with his feet up in the air.

If you check out his IG page there are several video's of the cat catching air with ramps on the bike so definitely not unrealistic to believe it's legit.. first thing I noticed on the pic is the oversize foot pegs.. you'd need that to get a bike like that in the air.. well at least to land anyways lol

Besides, the CB is mild compared to some of the other jumps/tricks the dude does!

It has less to do with the bike, than the riders balls..
Almost any bike could do it, given a rider with the right size balls. However it may be only once and may hurt the bike. FwIW, I think a lot of bicycles could do that, so why not something with a motor ?

I disagree Sixthwisconsin, I’m a retoucher and I don’t see any obvious retouching evidence. Sometimes reality looks weirder than retouching, especially if you’re trying to find the fingerprint of a retoucher ;)

I think it’s more likely this guy jumps old Hondas, haha.

Look at the bottom of the rear tire, it looks like  a tire sitting on the ground . Looks like it is squished just a tad from the weight of the bike.

Not only is the rider looking directly at the camara, but the people on the ground don't seem to be looking at the bike and rider. I still think it's fake.

It's definitely a CB650.  I think it's believable especially when carried off by a pro rider.  The bike may have been punished for the shot.

I think this is a real image. Bad retouching or not.
Matt is abusing the 650 pretty hard for sure. Im sure the frame is totally fooked.
I would love for him to engage here and let us know how the 650 is holding up and with pictures. No judgement... just not many people abuse these bikes like this, er, except 754...
It would be a real interesting to see the outer limits.

Oh wait, if he has a container with foam to land in then there’s no issue. Bike will be fine and he can do thirty jumps until he gets the shot he wants. Easy peasy
