Two ways...
One weld a socket or nut to it

Two, use a hack saw or dremel to cut a slot in it and use a flat steel bar to turn it

The advantage of method one is that you can then reuse the bolt for the time being to at least keep the bike on the road until a new bolt turns up

Yup, weld a big nut on it. Mine was stuck real good on my 650. Welded a nut on it and I still use the same bolt today.

Lefty loosey and righty tighty... just in case!  :)

If you don't have access to a welder and you have a large crescent wrench and angle grinder you could grind each side of the bolt flat so you have two large surface areas for the wrench to flatten against. Some heat may help, although it has to pass through the case and filter to get to the crankcase.

Option 2

If the bike is still rideable then get a large nut that you have a socket for that fits with preferably a 6 point socket and take it to a garage with a welder and have them weld it on there for you. A good long breaker type bar/wrench is a must have tool so you can get decent leverage on the hard to remove nuts and bolts.

No welder take it to a muffler shop they should weld a nut for about five bucks.....Or ...You need a good file and plenty time ..use the edge file and make it into a new nut head, done this before but not on a 550....use metric socket should be about 12/13/14 mm tapping it on tight, should come off

I’ve found that it’s not normally the threads that are seized, but the head of the nut seized to the filter housing (so many stuck bolts and screws on motors that I drill the head off and the remaining threads spin out by hand). Possibly a lot of heat from a propane torch, a penetrant of some flavor and smacking it with a hammer with the grinding of the flats as suggested above, that might do it.

I just dealt with the same problem last week. I tried the chisel and hammer method with no luck. I picked up an 18” pipe wrench at Lowe’s. It was off in a minute. I did heat it up first and applied some pb blaster first. Good luck with it.

looks like the 17 mm hex head.  if it is hammer an 16 mm on there evenly.  if it's the small oem bolt i think it's a 13 mm so hammer a 12 mm on.  whatever the original size was hammer the next smaller size on.  it worked for me.  ran it like that for months until i bought a new bolt.

Over complicatijng things, unless you did the  following..
Jeez guys just grab it with visegrips at a slight angle..

Then when you got it off, weld a short 3/8 drive socket to it..

I used a mallet and a medium size cold chisel. The flange behind the bolt is quite thick so there is plenty of metal for the chisel to bite into without damaging the filter housing.

new bolts are widely available...so if the head of the bolt goes bye bye, the filter cover comes off and the rest of the bolt spins out easy...reassemble with new bolt
If it works good, it looks good...

Bingo even a dremel and a couple of cut off disk will take that bolt head off in less than 10 min. But I would try 754s idea first just for the speed. Then throw that crap away and get a new bolt. What next try to save the filter ;D and what is a clamp/wrench?

im with banker, use a cold chisel,in the undo direction, you might knock it loose a coupla times and watch if it does turn a little, then use vice grips,a combination of the two.

those multi teeth or multi pin sockets are #$%* man, they wouldn't pull a loose tooth out, good idea but just don't work, they roll over and not grip on that short amount of left over hex!just chisel punch it around a little, then vice grip it the rest of the way.

Worked on every bolt I have used them on. But, thats just my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing.  Aren't those bolts like $8?   :o

Maybe but if you don't destroy it with a chisel, and weld on a socket, you will never have trouble again..
Nada...zip.. never..
That is why I dont think the big head is always a good idea, makes the uninformed think it needs more torque than it does.

Mine was kinda buggered up after a couple of decades of abuse. Maybe not quite that bad, but I found if I hammered on a slightly smaller 12 point socket, it would give me enough bite to get it off. I then replaced it with a new bolt at the next oil change.

That is usually my first go to plan also to get those off.
