"Borrowed" my [female] friend's '66 Mustang cause I wanted to drive it!  She's been out of town and the car hadnt been driven for awhile. Fun car to drive, it has the 289 V8 with a 4 barrel, but has an automatic trans [for her].
Noticed a couple issues that bothered me so I'm doing some maint for her.   Once warmed up, the starter motor cranks slowly, but cranks perfect when cold. Battery checked out good.  Battery cables on the solenoid were loose, tightened 'em up and seems fine now after a 45 min test drive.

Another annoying issue was a thump at every bump.  The idler arm was recently replaced so I know that is not it. When bouncing the front end, I can feel it on the top of the shock, turns out the rubber bushing on the bottom of the shock is bad. And they look bad!

Simple fix, new KYB gas adjust shocks the guys on the Mustang forum recommend...

My mom had a new 66 Mustang Candy Apple red hardtop.  Was cool to drive it to auto shop in high school.  Had a lot of fun in that car.

KYB = Keep Your Bilsteins
I have never liked a car equipped with KYBs as they generally have little to no rebound control.  Bilsteins HD shocks while riding firmly they make the car feel more planted and I think they are well worth the extra money and I like how they handle and ride.

I rolled my friends dune buggy out of the shop and when it came back in I was backing it alongside my car. I noticed the steering wheel wasn't centered so I attempted to get the front wheels centered. No dice right goes right left goes left. 7/8" of toe out just measuring the treads.

I'm tempted to lease a new Mustang Dave, yes you're right, they're fat (and full of arguably useless tech adding unnecessary weight) but they've got heaps of grunt, I didn't realise how advanced cars have become until I left a Brock Commodore in the dust with my 2.7 litre Toyota Hilux ute, much to our mutual surprise. Compared to modern cars, many old V8's just convert fuel into noise, without much in the way of performance, with sh1t brakes, don't handle, and unlike cars of that era, modern cars don't rust. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Dont do it!   When my wife's car [Nissan 370Z] was hit by some punk chick, I insisted on a comparable "premium" rental and received a 2017 Mustang Convertible. The car looked great but seemed very bloated and was slow compared to the 370Z. My wife did not care for it either and she is not a "car girl".

Of course it's all relative, but go test drive one first before signing on the dotted line.

I put racing stripes on my 2007 Toyota Matrix & I think it might even go faster now.
Then I came home and changed the spark plugs.

Nothing because I was working on my friends dune buggy. Someone (PO and mechanic since the po) should have his tools taken away.

5 or 6 months ago when I had my car last serviced, the dude at KMart Tyre and Auto told me that I desperately needed new brake pads and rotors for my Mitsubishi Outlander, that had then done around 135,000 miles. When I challenged him, he toned it down to needing replacement in 4000-6000 miles.

I've now done more than 6000 miles, so thought I better have a quick look (18 inch mag wheels with narrow spokes are great for checking brakes without needing to remove them first) and while the pads probably will need replacement in the next 6000 miles, the rotors look fine, with just the tiniest lip. I think I'll order some pads, and take my sweet time to replace them. I might take the rotors off and whip the lip off on my lathe, but no biggie if I just fit new pads. ;D

DIY 2-year service. Wasn't as painful as I feared

Finished the shock upgrade on Kimberly's '66 Mustang last weekend.

For those who think they know everything about shocks KYB's are made in Japan and the model I installed are a gas adjustable model
[so you can keep your Bilsteins that you dont even have]

The test drive went well, took it on my fav road RM 1431.  No more thumps at every bump and I liked the solid feel in the corners.

Car is running good and I will return it this weekend after one more drive.

I put more racing stripes on my 2007 Toyota Matrix, but I was misinformed : they do not make the car go faster. It only works when you have a 2zzz not a 1zzz engine. Darn, wish I had known that before I bought the car.

Race 5 and Race 6 of the Canadian Endurance Championship at Calabogie Motorsport Park. The MR2 ran flawlessly (total of 16 hours!). We modified our Fuel race cans and managed 11 pit stops for fuel/ driver changes and never exceeded the 5 minute minimum stop time. Finished third in race 5 and fourth in race 6 (we added an extra stop so we all got equal seat time). Huge fun, lot’s of laughs and burned off two sets of tires, same on brake pads, a few litres of oil and a bit of beer. Car finished every lap of 50+ racing hours this season! Amazing......

I did manage to “brush up” against an Acura Integra that was proving difficult to get by (see photo). Looking for a door and planning some rocker panel “inflation”.

Bear..... i’m Still smiling! The MR2 seems indestructible. We’ve decided to pull the engine and gearbox (it needs synchros and new shift cables and rode ends). Pop the head, check the bores and generally tighten it up..... ifthe guys want to compete again, next year, it will be my 50th season...... attached photo is my 1982 Honda/Michelin car. I won the Canadian Series 1980-83....... seems just yesterday and this “never gets old”M

Don't dis' the new Mustangs! I purchased a slightly used 2018 EcoBoost Coupe last December, replacing my 2008 V6 Convertible. Has lots more of everything: better power, MPG, handling, and tech than the 2008. Went from 205 to 310 HP, and 26 to 35 highway MPG. Wouldn't have believed it if I weren't sitting in the seat. See photo from a 240 mile trip from St. Louis to my house, filled her with premium in St. Louis before I left and drove 5 over the speed limit all the way home. The 2.3 liter four has more horsepower and torque than the old 4.0 V6, and the 10 speed auto pairs beautifully with the engine.

I spent two weeks on the Big Island with an EccoBoost Mustang a couple of years ago. It is a great car, well balanced and fun to drive. Played follow the leader with some of the local ricer boys up in the Kohala Mts. They couldn't lose me no matter how hard they tried, we had a blast. They were impressed with the car, not bad for a rental. 8)

Wow, bad day for water pumps...that is what will get fixed on my 92 Chevy van today.  This one is odd, that it never leaked a drop until the bearing crumbled, throwing the serpentine belt and showering shrapnel all over the road.   Of course, it leaks now too.
If it works good, it looks good...
