I'm thinking I'll go out and soak the clutches in ATF since I don't have any posi lube.
I'm not sure if that's a good idea, Don?

Well, they look just like transmission clutches. L0L. If the friction material falls off, you told me so.  They need some lube for assembly so I can set the preload. I actually have an empty can from the 70's that had GM posi additive in it. I learned later that it contained sperm whale oil. Had no idea, in my driving years starting in'68 we were still using whaling products.

Has anyone here swapped out the fuel pump in a 2002 Ford Explorer? My son is keen to get his going again after 8 years sitting in my back yard, and I'm keen to get my back yard back, so I can extend my garage? ; D

If you are lucky, Terry, there will be an access panel in the floor. If not then its drop the tank time.

If you need to drop the tank be sure to check for little hoses mounted between the floor and top of the tank. The roll over vents are probably vented to the charcoal canister and the little tits the hoses connect to can't  take much abuse.

It's not a super bad job to do as long as the tank is near empty. I haven't done an explorer  but I have done others. Getting the rubber filler hose loose can be a bit of a PITA sometimes.

I assembled the 9" ford posi unit, installed the ring gear, put it into the housing set the backlash and bearing drag and torqued the ring gear bolts. 75ft. Lbs. what a wrestling match.  Glad it's done.

Replaced the water pump, radiator hoses, accessory belt, a/c belt, thermostat, air filter, oil change.
2003 Silverado at 237k miles. Goal had been to get to 250k and then replace it but she’s still running strong.

I don't recall what year Exploder it was Terry but I remember I broke a plastic fitting when lowering the tank. It was some piping for the EVAP system as I recall. Damn thing had a ton of hoses & stuff going every which way.

I got the call from RJ Race cars, my Art Morrison backhalf chassis has been shipped and should arrive at their shop in a few days. That's about 2 weeks ahead of the estimates. I would assume other orders may have been cancelled due to layoff's, lockdowns and etc. At least they were able to continue to work. I'll need the tires now so we can check the fender clearance and order the axles.

Helped my buddy find/ship this '58 for his collection.  It delivered to my house on Tues, so I'll be "testing" it for the next week or so.  Bought it from an old guy on the Corvette forum, he owned it for 45 years!  He never got around to painting it but it in great shape mechanically [350 V8, 4 spd]

Got a bid for paint yesterday...$10K!  Taking it to another shop tomorrow morn for another bid.

Thanks for all the info about the exploder fuel pump replacement guys, it is a "drop the tailshaft, drop the tank cover, loosen a brazillion hoses then eventually drop the tank" job, what a pain in the arse. Oh well, it'll give #1 son something to do while I provide "technical assistance" and no muscle work, I don't have muscles any more........... ;D

Ha...no blades!  But if the bush is tall enough,  the muffler will burn it down.

Just "tested" it 52 miles, running good.  Got a bid for paint, $7800...

I can't get over how expensive re-sprays are nowadays. 20 years ago when I was painting cars on the side I could do a full respray for under 1000 bucks (600 USD) and sure, I didn't have the overheads that professional shops do, but $7800 to paint a little corvette is highway robbery. I'm sure they'll do a magnificent job, but it still pisses me off that 75% of that quote is pure profit. Still, I suppose if someone wanted to pay me that much to paint their car, I wouldn't complain........... ;D

It's not factory paint and looks bad.  The plan all along was to put a nice paint job on it, Black and Silver, he bought it right and it will all value to the car.  BTW - the paint bid includes interior - the dashboard that will have to be totally taken apart and the vertical console that comes down from the back deck.

Painting a Corvette well is expensive. Much more prep work goes into painting fiberglass than steel and it's way more unforgiving. Gotta make sure it's perfect. Any spidering or cracks in the glass will ruin a paintjob.

Decided I need a better vehicle for the family because I just had a baby 6 weeks ago. So I picked up one of my dream cars (200-series Volvo, E30 BMW, W123 Mercedes) this week.

It's a '79 240D diesel with a 4-speed manual transmission. Has great AC, although the compressor is a bit loud because it's an older piston-style pump. No sunroof so it's not going to inevitably leak. Virtually no rust, and besides the removed carpet, the interior is in pretty decent shape. It's by no means showroom quality, but it's a great survivor and only needs mostly cosmetic stuff too be great.

It's a dream to drive, albeit slow. Very, very slow. Probably the slowest vehicle I've driven, and I've driven a T3 Transporter. My Astro blows it out of the water. It's okay because it cruises 55 all day with no issues, though it takes a while to get up there.

First on the list is all the window seals, including the door seals. The outer seals are totally worn out and I definitely need to keep the water out to keep the doors rust-free.

Anyway, I spent the last two days stripping out the interior and cleaning everything I could get to. Previous owner frequently went to the beach with their dog so there was dog hair everywhere. Kinda musty too but I got pretty much all of it out. The seats still need shampooing though.

the doors have drain holes in the bottom, make sure they are clear!take off the door trims and hose the inside of the doors out, then once dry use fish oil all over inside, the window seals will always leak into the doors insides thats why they have drain holes, unless they look #$%*ty dont waste any more money on it.

The drain holes are clear. Previous owner did some prevention in the doors and other places. The window seals looks like absolute garbage so that's another reason I want to replace them.
