I watch the precision transmissions guy on youtube. He takes them apart on a morgue table and spots what is wrong and explains how he improves them, such as which check balls to leave out or what servo from a corvette will work.

I am a fan of that channel and used his videos to work out what to buy for mine. I didn't go crazy with parts and it still added up to $700. I'll definitely be making a couple of the mod's that he talks about and got a rebuild kit with the Raybestos Zpack 3-4 clutches and wide 1-2 band. I supplemented my rebuild kit with a few Sonnax parts too.

It's amazing how fast he gets his transmissions apart. In 90 minutes of work Saturday I did about 50% of what he gets done in under 30 minutes.

It seems for a long time no one heard of Sonnax but they were quietly making most of the parts everyone else sells. I ventured inside my freshly rebuilt powerglide just far enough to make it work, it had grit in the relief valve and it was hung open.
A few of the missing parts (not used in racing) threw me a curveball at first until the book got here. It has an original modified valve body.
There was also a roll pin that kept backing out and releasing whatever it held in place. I forget how I fixed that, but I hope it doesn't need to come out someday and won't. L0L!

Saturday it was 70 and sunny, which was nice for northeast Indiana, so I pulled the winter beater in the driveway to fix the exhaust. It was quiet when I bought it a few years ago, but I soon found out the exhause was scabbed together with tek screws and tin cans. Eventually, the pipe in the middle right under the seats fell apart and I've been driving it for quite a while with the exhaust ending right under the engine. Finally I bought one of those braided stainless flex couplers and some exhaust pipe and rolled around under the car cutting and welding. It's not perfect but it's loads better than listening to open exhaust.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Bankerdanny, this should clear up any questions that arise during the transmission rebuild,

^ That guy made training films, and this reflected how he often felt while filming them. This was filmed at the end of such a day at the request of the "engineer"
He reportedly invented the ear bud that todays reporters use so he could play the tape and repeat it accurately.

The Turbo Encabulator. I have this bit on a VHS tape I got back in the mid 1990's from one of my wife's bosses who was an engineer.

Oddly, I have seen a dinglearm up close. A friend was trying to get his NHRA top alcohol dragster license. The car never shifted into high gear, the car owner wanted to blame him repeatedly. When they finally pulled the Lenco trans and took off the cover, there was the high gear dinglearm hanging loose inside the case.

I fried the trailer harness in our Grand Cherokee. Smoke was coming from under the plastic in the cargo area.  It scared the #$%* out of me. Luckily it stoped when I unplugged the trailer.

Got the transmission on the Envoy 99% disassembled. This poor transmission has been beat on. The 3rd gear clutches were totally smoked, several components show evidence of severe overheating. As a result I needed to order another $150 in parts which should be delivered later this week and the reassembly should start next weekend.

My '70 Corvette was making a thump sound when I stepped on the brake pedal, it was coming from the front wheel area.  Pulled the front wheel, thought maybe the caliper had come loose. Turns out the bolt on the upper control arm had come loose and the shims apparently fell out.  Believe my buddy had a similar issue with his '65 Corvette recently, seems like a bad design.

Our Honda Accord has developed a thumping rattly noise under the hood, it does it moving and parked with the motor running. I already replaced the idler and belt. I'm considering letting the dealer put a guy to work for a couple hours and have the valves adjusted while it's there. 110,000 miles.

I had the same thing happen to my old ‘03 Grand Cherokee. These units plug in as an “inbetween coupler” in the back end lamp harness. Apparently there was a recall on the Chrysler unit, that missed us! Bought an aftermarket unit at a local auto parts store, that totally solved the problem.

Drove the 50 miles down to my sister's and gathered up the disassembled transmission and all the parts and hauled them back to the city so I can work on them Saturday a d Sunday without spending $50 on gas driving there and back both days.

I keep telling my wife that she needs to stop driving the car in traffic with the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. Instead of using the pedal she's constantly speeding up and slowing down using the damn buttons. It's at least $1400 to fix it when it breaks. She's going to be mad when I laugh at her and tell her it's not my problem, I warned her.

That sucks balls Dave, we've had the old green Hyundai for 20 years this year, and the only thing that's gone wrong with it was that it spat a brake pad. Even the tyres I put on it then are still roadworthy. I wish it would die so I could send it to the tip, but while it keeps going, she won't let me get rid of it. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The guys I Endurance Race with decided three seasons (32 X 8 hour races) was enough seat time in the Toyota MR2 Turbo. Today we concluded a deal on an ex Lexus Grand Am factory racer. Really well built sedan that looks the part. First race weekend in 17 days!
