yes silicone is hiding inside the old paint..and loosen up vhen you pyt the nev paint on,,and it finds its vay through the new paint..and make those dots...i alvays klean up the areia i vill paint ..use some terpeltin ..have no idea of the english vord..for it

It probably is, but I’d never use Turpentine on anything but enamel, it doesn’t play nice with acrylic lacquer like Dave will be using. Lots of wax and grease remover and a clean rag. ;D

Turpentine ? My German grandfather always used that when he painted, cleaned the brushes, etc.

I think it works ok to clean brushes, but not as a paint thinner.

Worn out steering box in my old garden tractor! Took two hours to get it out. Found a Quebec based parts source, fingers crossed! You gotta love the internet…..

John, what brand is your garden tractor ?

Nope.... just grass cutting. Turning constantly to the left has totally worn that side of the crowngear.

18hp SEARS Craftsman. Kholer twin cylinder, built by Husqvarna. Tough, old beast!

Yes,that is a durable machine  8) Do you also push snow with it on your driveway ?

Yesterday, we worked on the second race car. Our Team runs the LEXUS, but we also have been taking along a smaller Toyota Echo, that we rent to 4 other guys (“Arrive and Drive”). Unfortunately one of them managed to find the only concrete wall at Calabogie, a few weeks ago. Pulled the engine and gearbox, yesterday. Even the steering rack is broken in two! Looks like this one is headed for the scrap heap.......

Too bad. Despite a basically stock engine/ gearbox, this car had a fantastic roll cage, seat, etc., and the suspension was highly modified. Handled like a little go cart and went flat out almost everywhere..... The guys were leading GT3 for the season, so far. Looking for a replacement.

Can the roll cage get put in another shell? Maybe start visiting junkyards that might have candidates to pull out of the yard..

Price of used cars is a little bit nuts lately driving everything about 25% higher than usual...
Or more...

I bet good used econo boxes are highly sought after in the US right now? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

We have a second “parts car”. Already used the hood and front bumper assembly the last time one on the guys went for a “field trip”. All the unibody framework in the engine bay is bent….. it can be repaired, but the sad reality is it’s not worth the effort. Looking for a replacement “rental”.

Finally have the jeep roadworthy.  In the last 2 weeks I replaced all body bushings, leaf springs and shocks, alternator upgrade, harmonic balancer and pulleys and put interior mostly together.  We're currently on a 500 mile trip shaking it down

Nope...I actually don't know what they are.  I believe they are just junk steel wheels from an 80s Chevy

I will eventually replace the wheels, but I want to make sure I've got all the mechanicals sorted before.  May even wait till the next tire replacement and just do it all in one go.

We have the first piece of diamond plate fitted to the trailer and the second piece has the fender cutouts done. Still have to get the middle piece down and cutout the notches for the taillights on the third piece. After that it's time to do a bunch of welding.

Parts arrived for the old Craftsman lawn tractor and they were correct! New steering shaft (integral pinion gear) and the matching rack gear. Good for another 25 years! May have to give it an oil change, to celebrate......

I'm about there Dave...once the firebirds engine is finished and installed all we'll have is the Pontiac, the jeep and my bikes.  So my guzzi will be the only fuel injected vehicle

That's a beautiful old Jeep Joe, it doesn't look like it has any rust in it either, which is great, all the cars here built before the 90's were rust buckets sadly. ;D

My old 1995 Subaru Liberty (Legacy in the US) hasn’t had an oil change in 3 years, so yesterday I bought a new filter, a jug of oil and a litre of Morey’s oil thickener for it. Today I’m gonna dump the old crap, add the new, plus a small portion of Pro-Ma oil additive, and it should be good for another 5000 miles or so. Subarus are notoriously fragile but this old beast just keeps chugging along. Best 500 bucks I ever spent. ;D

Put 250 miles on my $2500 Volvo C30 today. The AC does not work, but other than that, a fine car. Something very satisfying about a real deal! And my wife enjoys the 6-speed too!

Cougar, you got a great deal on that 960, they are great cars, I Owned mostly 240s , had one 940 sedan and didn’t care for it. I wouldn’t touch a 740, too many issues as they age. The fuse relay box being a known weakness. The 240 fuse box required yearly or bi-yearly cleaning for best results but super easy to do with the open design of that fuse box.
