I’d love an MGB with a nice modern turbo 4 or 6 cylinder engine, but finding one that’s not rotten or full of bondo is a challenge. ;D

Here you go:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964-mg-mgb-roadster-4/

or

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-mg-mgb-gt-38/

Ideally mine will end up 70% as nice as that GT

I'm building two 10 to 1 MGB motors with big valve heads and lightened rods. Many times I've been tempted to pull the 240hp 2.8L GM 60° V6 I built out of my 85' GMC S-15 to drop into my 72' MGB/GT. My machinist buddy swears that the 10 to 1 motors will be plenty of fun.

That’s one nice looking MF tractor there Greg! ;D

Yep, it is going to be a handy MF'er to have around.

Nice! Maybe I should buy one for my 2025 Route 66 ride instead of a bike! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I finally got my transmission guy on the phone. On Monday he's going to take the dragsters 2 speed apart and wash it so I can get the SFI cases re-certified. I'm getting a new sfi flexplate and need to see why the starter gear is eating the teeth off of them. It might need replaced/repaired also.

The weather has been crap for the last 3 days so to avoid the boredom, yesterday I did an oil and filter change on my twin turbo Subaru.

I used my new Vevor air jack to lift the front of the car so I could get to the sump plug and filter, I love the air jack as the car is pretty low and my regular shop jack is a pain to use. I’d dumped a litre of ATF in the engine and drove it a couple of miles to clean the sludge out then drained the old oil out, and removed the old filter.

When my oldest boy moved back in over covid he bought 5 litres of full synthetic oil to put in his old Ford Exploder but I told him he was better off using Dino oil as it had been sitting in my back yard for several years and would need a couple of oil changes to clean it out properly, so we just put cheap oil in it and did a couple of oil changes before he drove it back to Sydney. The jug of full synthetic oil was still sitting in the garage so I stole it and just bought a new filter.

While I was at the auto parts store I bought a bottle of octane booster so threw that in the tank and filled it up with premium. Not sure if the octane booster is just snake oil, but the car seems to be running really well now. ;D

Thanks Bill, all wheel drive and 300 BHP to the wheels. Absolute hoot to drive, pisses of guys in V8’s, and better fuel mileage, not to mention dead flat cornering. Being a Subaru you never know when it’s gonna explode, but if it does I’ll rebuild it with bigger turbos. ;D

My machinist buddy loves Subaru's. He makes a good living rebuilding Subaru heads. In Seattle they are popular cars and there's several Subaru specialists in the area. I've walked in to his shop and seen the entire receiving bay floor covered with heads to rebuild. Like you said "you never know when it's gonna explode". ;D

Yep, sad but true mate. Years ago I read that Subaru made cars similar to european cars and thought it was a compliment before I discovered what sh1tboxes euro trash cars are. Hard to believe that BMW cars and bikes are made by the same company, as the cars are so crap, as are Mercedes, Audi's, Volvo's, Saab's etc. Still, it's a little rocket when it's running well, so I still love it, but it's certainly not a Honda, not that Honda cars are particularly inspiring either.

I'm going to drive it 200 miles to visit my Ma the day after Christmas, and I'm just praying that it doesn't let me down, there are some great backroads for driving it like it was designed for, but there's never a guarantee that it'll make it. Maybe I should buy a Camry as a daily driver, and just keep the little beast for weekend fun.... ;D

You did good by flushing the engine before changing the oil Terry;the turbo does make lots of internal carbon/sludge,etc.

Thanks Bill, I drove it again yesterday and I think the octane booster may have had a positive effect, it seems to be running sweeter than before. I usually only put 98 in it but a couple of times I’ve had to use 95 because the gas stations I went to didn’t sell 98 for some reason, and it felt a bit “flat”. I’ve never used full synthetic oil in it either so that may have helped. The oil that came out of it was filthy after only a couple of thousand miles, so flushing it with ATF was probably a good thing too. ;D

Moved the old FORD F350 plow truck up to the house today. A rear brake line left a trail on the floor! Back under I go!

Well….. This should be in the “happyish” postings! I crawled under the truck and inspected the lines I replaced last December. The leak was from a fitting I never TIGHTENED UP. Pulled it snug and the pedal is much firmer. The floor is dry too. Topped up the master cylinder and we are ready for a real snowfall!

This truck will die one day, if you look closely you will see the plow brackets trying to punch through the mold board (yellow shovel part). However at this moment in time, it’s “good to go”.

My lawn tractor has a plow, I weld up the skids every year except last year I didn't use it. Not a lot of snow even though I do the whole block. The kids that walked to school have grown up or moved away now, no one uses the sidewalk anymore.

We have the front PTO powered 48" blower for our John Deere we got earlier this year after Laura bought her house. It is ready to use except I need some weight for the back. JD stuff is stupid expensive. A pair of wheel weights goes for $125-$150 used. The suitcase weights are $75 each for the 45lb, but you also need the $250 bracket to put them on. heck, the chains for the rear tires were $70.

Danny…. A neighbour of mine had the same complaint. He bought the chains and then tow strapped a decent size garbage can to the back of his tractor. Filled it with rocks and he’s ready for Winter. Looks funny and works great!

I would be making my own weights too. I made a 360lb 3pt mount concrete weight for my tractor. The John Deere prices are always too much. John Deere has used Yanmar for the small John Deere tractors for a long time but they won't sell me parts in common because I don't have a John Deere VIN number. Luckily my 76' Yanmar is very well built, the only plastic parts are the steering wheel rim and the knobs. It will outlast the John Deere badged version. 8)

My racing partner Tim Gourley has made an appointment for next week. We’re prepping the LEXUS for 2024 but he wants to go see this. He is a FORD man and worked in a Ford dealership for many years before opening his own place…… I’ve been racing for 54 seasons and never sat behind a V8! Mmmmm.

Well I think you better go try it out. Accelerating out of a corner with V8 power is addictive. 8)

Same eight hour enduros. Would likely move to the “A” Class. The Lexus and Toyota MR2 were in the “B” Class. The Mustang would likely be about 5 seconds a lap quicker at a Mosport. Fast on the straights but not as quick around low speed corners.

Tracks like Shannonville or Calabogie that have less straight and more corners would be even more of an “equalizer”. And we’ll have to make more gas stops! It does have power steering and brakes, but probably can’t carry enough gas for a full 2 hour stint. We are limited to 24 gallons of fuel on board. This thing will probably burn $7-800 of gas a day, so lots to think about.

Went o see the Mustang today. Not as clean as it looks in the pictures and the roll cage is legal for the rule books but less than well engineered. I’ve always liked my race cars to be as tough as possible.
Despite being rough around the edges, lots of potential. The fuel cell is too small to run a two hour driver stint (very important in an 8 hour Enduro so we only have to make 3 pit stops) and it would probably consume cdn$800 of gasoline/race. Tim and I agreed to sleep on it for a few days and then discuss next week.
