put a 45 degree brass elbow on my briggs powered toro ride on mower oil drain, why do they have the drain plug so it makes a mess no matter how hard you try not to?

Because they can. 8)

Probably some kind of twisted engineer joke. ;D

got next door mates Leyland p76 brakes fixed!

Never heard of that model, Dave.

After a bit of googling, it's a British car manufacturer, designed by an Italian
[Giovanni Michelotti] and built in OZ!  What could go wrong??!!!

I went three rounds with the Holley 600 carb on my 40 chevy, that gas hog wanted to drown the 350 in fuel. I cleaned the secondary needle and seat a couple times and pulled off the float bowl twice before getting it to not overflow. I left the fuel a little below the window plug and hopefully it won't act up the next time I start it.
After some trouble with melting fuel lines, I replaced them all and added an after-pump filter before the pressure regulator. Still somehow a piece of crud must have lingered.

My Toro LX 425 riding mower has a 20hp Kohler engine that has a tool less oil drain. Pull off the cap, put a pan under it,  twist the drain spout a half turn and the oil is draining.

This Sears machine looks very similar to the heavy duty Cub Cadet models from the same era.  8)

I put about 40 miles on the 40 chevy today, it came home running rough again. I've cleaned the carbs multiple times but now it seems maybe the points have faded away. They are only 25 or so years old, it might be time for the electronic pickup distributor to go in there.

If something ever happens to my 305 V6 in my 61 GMC I probably won't go back to a motor with points ignition. But then again what will I do with my 7 dwell meters then?

Back on the ground! Front wheel bearings replaced, repacked the rears, fresh pads, turned the rear discs a few thou’ and new tires. Alignment, wash and polish to be ready for next race. Double header weekend, back at Mosport.

I'm contemplating the electronic pickup distributor, it's a magnetic pickup and was wired to an MSD. I don't currently have an MSD on the 40 and I have a big old black Mallory coil on the firewall. I don't think they are multiple spark friendly so I think I'll forgo the MSD box and wire it up as is.

I used to have one of those big honking Mallory coils on my 413.;D Don, is the electronic distributor an HEI type with the module that drives the coil?

Spent the day on the boat yesterday, had a crew of nine!  Even with temps reaching 100 degrees, good thing about being on the boat is if you feel hot, you just jump in the lake!

I realized the gassy smell in the garage is the fuel pump on the 40 Chevy's mechanical pump. It's a Holley that needs to be clocked to clear the frame and motor mount. I think I can get a rebuild kit for it.

I am I actually have a similar pickup that came in the dragster we bought, I unlocked the timing, swapped some parts, got a new vacuum advancer and have an MSD cap and rotor with some big 409 type plug wires all left over from our small block 383 dragster engine. I just need to figure out the wiring to the pickup, it has an MSD plug in on it but I'm not running one due to my old Magneto style coil. I'm really not sure if the pickup and coil will get along. I did see a set of NOS GM points on ebay for $30.
Edit, I realized the fuel pump is seeping gas, the diaphragm is likely melted like all of the rubber fuel lines were last year. It's the only piece that I didn't replace yet, the pump is a Holley that you can take apart and clock the inlet/outlet and I need that due to the frame and motor mount being so close to the engine.

Revived a 2015 Subaru pressure washer that was given to me three years ago or so.
Finally got bored enough to look at it.
Cleaned a slight amount of crud out of the carb, replaced the fuel lines, put some gas in it and it started on the second pull.  :)
It's got an electric start too for some reason. The sealed LA battery is long dead and I didn't get the charger but who cares.
It's raining atm so I'll hook it up to water later. I expect it will work ok.
Might change the oil but it looks like a messy job.
Now, if I just had something to pressure wash..

I was in a small gas engine repair shop looking for a gas tank for a lawn mower, and the owner took me into a room full of parts machines, including a bunch of pressure washers. He explained that most of them had good engines, but bad pumps caused by running them dry..

Well it quit raining so I dragged it out and hooked it up to the hose. By golly it squirts!
It might be leaking some water at the pump housing, dunno, need to give it a closer look but other wise it worked just fine.
(It looked like may have been was stored outside at some point, I suppose it could have froze with some water in the pump, maybe.)

But for the moment since I don't have anything into it except a couple of pieces of fuel line I'm happy.

Finished up and loaded the race car today. Gave it a quick wash and polish. Full weekend at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park). 2.5 mile road course with 10 corners and huge elevation changes. My favourite race track! Super fast. No motorcycle stuff until next week……
