Started up the '69 Mustang a couple weeks back but was not running good, seemed like it wasnt getting fuel. A quick check showed the fuel pump working so it had to be the carb.  Sent the Holley double pumper off to my buddy, he is our auto carb expert and cleans them in his industrial ultrasonic cleaner for beer money.
Mounted it back up...

The 351 started right up, just needed to adjust the idle down a bit.  Then it was off for a test drive...

Running great but the steering feels real sloppy, I mean scary sloppy!  I recall that last time I drove it. Going to check it next week to see what suspension parts are worn and/or if the steering box is shot.

Thank you.  It's been a bit more of a project than expected, we purchased it from my brother, it had set in his shop for several years...

How did she run with the carb. nice now Stev-o ?

The old 87' car I drive has one worn u-joint in my steering column and it's a lot of work to hold the wheel on a straight path.

Yes, PS and power [front] disc brakes.

She's running great with cleaned up Holley.  It was jetted to 850 but is now jetted to 750cfm, which should be better. Many guys make the mistake of installing big carbs thinking that will increase HP, but it just isnt so.

The car is driving straight, part of the issue is the steering wheel can be turned a fair amount with no change in wheel direction.   We plan to check out the suspension tomorrow...

Brought home this 75 C20

Square body for the win! Don't forget to oil the hood hinges and think about getting a set of hood braces. I had one that started to do the bend in the middle, the braces and oil fixed it right up.

Started working on the LEXUS IS300. Decided we’re running it for another season. Pulled the fire system bottle. It needs recert. every three years. Pulled both front JRZ shocks, along with six feet of line and the remote reservoirs. We had to reload them with nitrogen a few times last year and one has a noticeable oil leak. Fortunately the shop that rebuilds and tunes them is not far away. Cool place, they are currently building shocks for Factory Teams both here and the USA. Not just cars. Off road racers, snow machines and race bikes too. Fascinating place. Checkout:

Shannonville Motorsport Park. April 25,26,27. Practice Friday afternoon and then 2 X 8 hour enduros. We did really well there last time. Won our class three days in a row. Check out the posters on the windshield.

Next up we’re back at Mosport (my favorite track).

Interesting, Accelerated Technologies built the front forks for my CB550.  I'll have to mark my calendar, re Shannonville.  Isn't Mosport everyone's favourite?

I think I said Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsport Par) is my favorite. It’s also the most beautiful. Canadian Tire spent a ton of money over the past 15 years and it really is a world class facility today. I’ve been racing there since 1970 and it “never gets old”.

As bad as I always wanted to go there, it's not my favorite!  [My brother has raced SCCA cars there]

My favorite is COTA, my local track.   Sadly Indycar is no longer on their calendar,  NASCAR [boring] was there last weekend. F1 is there every Fall.

I've used my RD350 as a pit bike there when I crewed for my brother...

Steve, don't forget MotoGP at Cota in a few weeks also.  But you know that.  Same weekend as the Handbuilt Show in Austin, you ever check that one out?

Also, beautiful Mustang.  My first car was a 69 Mach I.  It had the louvers on the back window like yours which I think really adds to the look and lines of the car.  I don't think mine had the spoiler though.

Then it was off for a test drive...

Running great but the steering feels real sloppy, I mean scary sloppy!  I recall that last time I drove it. Going to check it next week to see what suspension parts are worn and/or if the steering box is shot.

As a follow up, once up in the air, it didnt take long to isolate the sloppy steering issue.  The steering box was missing 1 of 3 bolts that secures it to the frame but even so, there is nearly 3 inches of rotation of the steering wheel with no movement of the front wheels! All of the suspension parts test good, no slop when moving a wheel around. And the torsion bar appears new, wondering if my brother installed it when he felt the steering get sloppy?
I considered upgrading to a Borgeson box, my buddy did it on his '63 Corvette and was a vast improvement. After a bit of research on the very good Vintage Mustang Forum, it seems the route to go is a box rebuild, there is a guy in IL that specializes in this.  So that will be the next step to getting this car back on the road and driving like it should.

does the steering assist ram have an adjustment to the actuating valve? I guess you looked at that.

COTA does look like an awesome facility. In another 60 years it will have as much history as Mosport!

Yes, checked that.  Will have the valve assembly checked/rebuilt as well.

Hi Rich...thx.  Yes, I like the louvers on a '69 Mustang, not so much on other muscle car for some reason. I also like the front and rear spoilers, a great look.  My first car was a '70 Barracuda!

MotoGP is at COTA Mar 28-30, have been to it, can't make it this year.  Have not been to the Handbuilt show but heard it is excellant.

Finished pulling apart the LEXUS JRZ shocks, piping and remote reservoirs. I’m going to find new top bushings and bearings for the “top hats” while the shocks are being rebuilt. Some of the mounting hardware is looking pretty beat up too!
