Spring has Sprung!   Spent two [half] days cleaning, cleaning, cleaning and then polishing the Monterrey boat after it's months long hibernation over the winter.  Great news is it started right up no issue and the stereo still rocks!  I'll never want a "colored" hull again, for some reason they tend to oxidize much more that white. Lake Travis water is very "hard", that may have something to do with it?
Annual polishing gets it looking good again...

Looking good Steve!

Spent half a day a working on a neighbour’s filthy little Ferguson 35 gas tractor. Must be a late 50’s or early 60’s. No pictures, it’s worse than what you can imagine. Mysteriously started running rough after 15-20 seconds and then died. First I repaired several fuel leaks that threatened to turn it into a burn pile. Cleaned a bunch of plug wires that had blue/green ends, a rotor and cap that looked the same. Then squared off a set of points that looked like a pair of mountain peaks! All to no avail…..

Subbed in a used Honda cb750 condenser and the little bugger sprang to life and idled perfectly! Installed a new gasket at the exhaust manifold/down pipe union and he should be good for another 50 years. He drove away in a cloud of blue smoke, smiling like the village idiot. My hands will stink for days.

Oddly satisfying.

It took me longer to make up two usable license plate lamps out of the four, than to take off the damaged cover. Despite the corrosion and broken tabs, managed to make one perfect and one that needed to be glued in. At +$50 each it was worth the trouble! Most OEM Volvo parts are ridiculously priced.

Thanks Bill! It’s a 2008 but still in pretty good shape. Despite its age, people often ask if “it’s our new car”. I couldn’t stand looking at that damaged bumper cover, but it took a while to find one the matching colour. Last year I replaced the turbo boost control valve and promptly blew off an exhaust connection! It’s a six speed manual and a lovely car to drive. My wife really likes it, so I don’t get to use it much…..

Hey Dave...you might want to check it, when I click on the Z900 tab, I see the Honda pics.

BTW - your 348 was gorgeous! Love the side strakes, reminds of another Prancing Horse, the Testarosa [Red Head]. Why'd you sell it?

My 40 chevy has an oil leak at the joint of the timing cover and oil pan. I remembered an article in Hot Rod where they located a leak with soap bubbles and repaired it with heavy silicone and a vacuum source. I put a little air pressure on it and did the soap spray, found the leak.
I used some tubing, a small shop vac and my vacuum pump's gauge to adjust a vacuum leak to get about 3" of vacuum on the crankcase. Next, I sprayed brake clean to get the oil out of the gap and wiped down the area to remove oil and dirt.
Then I put black silicone on my fingers and fed it into the gap, at first it seemed to suck in, but then it built up and I was able to make a smooth bead.
If it keeps me from pulling the front clip, timing cover and oil pan, it's a big win. If it doesn't work I'm out some dirty hands and a half tube of black ultra-seal.

Today on the 01' Honda TRX 350 Rancher ATV we installed the carb, airbox, gas tank and filled and bled the front brakes. Next up will be installing the body mounting hardware,  the body panels, grill guard and the cargo racks. Also still have to recover the seat and decide on which tires to get.

I think it may have been a caching problem, hopefully fixed now!

Yes, the 348 was nice..  At the time I had no room, and it was coming up for a major service so I advertised it and it went..  If it hadn't I would have sold something else I guess :)
A lot of people call them a Baby Testarossa, but the strakes are the only thing they share..  Also the last Analogue Ferrari, and the last designed with input from Enzo.

Cheers, Dave

That is clever! I hope I can remember it until I get a chance to try it……

I found a rubber stopper to close up one hole in the valve cover and used a tubeless tire stem in the other one with the core removed to use as an adapter to a vacuum hose that my brake bleeder was hooked to. After pressure testing, I removed the stopper and dropped a piece of steel tube in with the vacuum hose over it I taped the hose so it couldn't make a seal and over vac. it.

Speaking of shabby lights Dave, today I installed new headlights onto the new (to me) Ford AU Falcon Ute. I'm working my way thru a mental list of what it needs to pass a Roadworthy Inspection, plus what I want to do to tidy it up.

So far I've taken it to an upholsterer to have the drivers seat repaired and the hood lining replaced last Thursday, a new exhaust system installed and a new spare key cut and two new remotes programmed on Saturday, a new windscreen and rear view mirror on Monday, the headlights today, plus I touched up some paint scratches on the bumper while the headlights were out, and am taking it to a brake place tomorrow to get the brakes done. Hopefully it'll fly thru the inspection, but knowing the local mechanics, they'll find something nice and expensive to repair before I get my piece of paper, the turds.

I've decided to get a Subaru expert to fix my twin turbo B4, I could do it myself, but I don't want to, I like working on cars, but the older I get, the longer it takes me to recover after crawling around under a car for a few hours. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Working low down on the C30 for the past few days, I agree! Nothing sharpens up a car more than a new set of headlights!

Thanks guys, yep, if I can get rid of 3/4 of my bike collection and get some space back in my garage I’d love to get a hoist so I could work comfortably on my cars.

Bill, the engine needs to come out and the heads need to be skimmed, as one of the head gaskets is blown and it overheats pretty quickly. Otherwise it’s a magnificent car, around 300 BHP @ 14psi boost, and blasts past V8’s like they’re going backwards. I have a Subaru specialist ready to do the work, I just need to get it towed to his workshop.

Once the “new” ute is road legal I want to install a turbo on it too, I’ve got an EBay turbo in a box ready to go, plus an intercooler, BOV etc, and my new mate, Tony, the exhaust guy says he can bend up the pipes for me. I know EBay turbo’s aren’t great, but if it works well I’ll buy a good one when the EBay one dies. Should be fun. ;D
