One thing you may try if you still have an issue with it cranking slow when hot.  Unplug the coil feed or otherwise disable ignition.  If it still cranks slow it's not a timing issue.

Is at least an easy way to know if you have an power issue or a timing issue.

I know the transfer case is under car and you can't see it....but the donor one I'm rebuilding was so dirty I can't bring myself to not clean it up nice.

50 year old mud is a PITA to clean off btw.   I ended up cleaning and bead blasting them.  One more half to go tomorrow.

It kind of got out of hand....I wasn't worried about the discoloration on the cases...but these things had clay mud just caked on. And it took scraping and blasting just to get it off.

It's done now.  Have to order a couple bearing and then it will go back together with new deals and a new chain.

Is it still cranking slow when hot with the high torque starter?

Yes, installed the high torque starter last year to solve that issue.  And the Mach was was driven much til I got the steering issue solved.

Baked on clay based mud is tough to remove. I probably spent 40 hours scraping and picking away the clay based mud on the 01' Honda TRX 350 Rancher motor. It was like baked on ceramic coating and likely causing it to run hotter.

That's exactly what I was dealing with....it was literally like ceramic.

What I should have done is just taken the cases to have them dipped/stripped.  But it would probably have been 100$ to do that...and I was feeling cheap

LEXUS ran like a freight train. Friday morning  practice we scrubbed in a new set of "rains" and two new sets of Firestones. The afternoon "warm up" race was 4 hours. We finished 5th overall and 1st in our class. Saturday was cold, miserable, and rained 90% of the day. The Rain Tires were a success and amongst a snarl of all wheel and front wheel drive competition, we managed a 2nd in class. More importantly, no damage and nothing broken.
Sunday was cold and very windy, but sunshine. We traded places with a Nissan Sentra Cup car and after eight hours our winning margin was LESS THAN 8 SECONDS...... Totally exhausted, but had a great time.
Tim drove the last 2 hour session on Sunday and was brilliant. He beat me for FTD but one of our Team (data driven driver) calculated that when he added up all our 50 best lap times (by driver), I still managed to be almost 35 seconds further down the road than the others. “Old age and cunning beats youth and exuberance”.

Have been looking forward to your race report.  Sounds like a great time was had by all, and the weather while ugly on Saturday didn't cause any issues, or damage.  Always a bonus ;).  What kind of lap times is the Lexus averaging?

We did have a great time! Ran the outside “pro track” on Sunday and the LEXUS likes the long straights and fast corners. Ran consistent 1:22.0 lap times.

Congrats, sounds like a good overall weekend.

My brother always said it was a good weekend when the car goes back into the trailer w/o damage!

That sounds pretty quick. I never ran on that track.  Did run some Solo !'s on the go-kart track in the Lotus 7.  My best time on the main track was a 1:44 in the Lotus Cortina Mk2, don't remeber what my sidecar times were though.

The Cortina was a special car.  It had been Quebec GT2 Champion, & won the support race at a Canadian GP.  The engine was originally built by Gilles Villeneuve's Atlantic guy.  When I had it refreshed here it was full of Cosworth & Brian Hart F2 parts.  Was told that it was the strongest 1600 F2 engine he had ever had on his dyno.  I raced it with both CASC & VARAC for 2 seasons, good times.  A Ford Executive asked at the Vintage Festival if it was for sale.  I answered 'everything is for the right price'.  He asked what was mine, quoted an inflated number and he asked when he could pick it up!  That's when I took up sidecars haha.

That’s just how my Lotus Eleven moved to Italy! It ran the Miglia Milia last year.

John, how much did your Lotus Eleven weigh ?

1,106 lbs dry, no driver. The 1460cc FWB Coventry Climax Motor (ex RCN portable fire pump) was just shy of 140 bhp. Raced it in vintage events for almost 20 years.

That's an excellent low-weight advantage.  ;)
