A friend sent me this great shot of the LEXUS, last weekend. Just getting into corner 8 at Mosport, coming off the 4,000 foot back straight. Downshift to 5th gear and turn in at about 125 mph. One of my favourite spots in the universe!

Turn 5 in the Cortina, and 2 with the sidecar always brought a smile.  Still one of the great tracks.

Was a sad day in Texas, my beloved Nissan 370Z is gone....



No, not in the flood but traded for a [GASP!] SUV!    Bought the car 8 years ago for my wife, she always wanted a Z car, and it has been absolutely perfect only requiring routine maint.  Was a blast to drive, 3.7L V-6, 333hp with paddle shifters. 

She's been hounding me for some time for something "practical?!" and good for road trips.  I stalled her as long as I could but we recently sold an investment property so was a good time to spend some money. 

Steve, my wife also said I should get something we can travel in.  But I'm thinking of going the other way, sell my Land Cruiser and get a sports car.  The LC, though reliable, is from up north and very rusty, needs some things like exhaust and shocks and only gets 13mpg max.  Not sure the wife is thinking sports car but I am.   Maybe I can also stop being the 'airport' guy.   Rich
Stuck with Nissan as they have been excellent for us, this thing has every bell and whistle and then some!

Hey Rich...If you do shop for a sports car, I'd highly recommend the 370Z.   We have taken it on a few relatively short road trips [Houston, S. Padre Island, etc] and they really is enough room for two ad you can get there quick!  Good luck in your search...

Despite the crazy heat, spent few hours syphoning the remain gas from the race car. We never quite get the two hours we need from a US24gal cell. Turns out there is 3.7 gallons still in there, so we should have enough…… I need to build a “surge tank” that keeps full to feed the engine ALL the fuel and adds a bit of extra capacity!

Hey John...are you saying you need the full 24 gal to do a two hour stint?  The fuel cell doesnt have a gauge, right?  How do you guys determine pit stop timing?  [most of my brothers races were sprints, so a full tank was enough]

Steve….. no gauge. We fill it to the top (and then some, it has a 5” fill pipe, about 24” long, you can just see in the pic) and then have to nurse it for the last 10-15 minutes with periodic fuel starvation on fast, long corners. Hopefully the surge tank will add a few litres and stay full….. we use almost every drop, every two hours.

Golf cart (ancient Yamaha G1 2-stroke) was getting hard to start and backfiring. Crank seal on the clutch side was blown out and destroyed. My local cart guy doesn’t have one and wanted several days to order. Went on Amazon and will have one tomorrow! Wow…..

The culprit….. Truly FUBAR seal. The external 2-stroke oil pump normally retains the seal. Someone removed it years ago (we premix) so I think I will need to make a retaining ring. The pump was held in place by three equally spaced bolts, around the seal recess so a “fix” should be simple?

Crank seal on the clutch side was blown out and destroyed.

You are very lucky it did not run lean and burn a hole in the piston, it is common on two-strokes [dont bother asking how I know!]

On the Kawasaki, the inner seal requires crank removal and a rebuild if you want to do it properly.

Thanks! These Robin engines are pretty simple. There is one on the other side too, under the flywheel and ignition plate. The tiny weep hole at the bottom of the housing looks dry, so hoping I’ll get away with just one. Fingers crossed!

New seal with custom keepers.....

UPDATE. All buttoned up and runs better than it has for quite a while! Judging by the amount of crud I scraped away, the old one was leaking for a long time.

More cart work today….. the battery was taking +16V at full speed. Spec is 14.5-14.7V. Fortunately the voltage regulator was spotless inside and adjustable. Got it set down to 14.5V and all good! These old Yamaha G1’s appear to be indestructible (despite my grandchildren’s best efforts!).

mate of mine has this can am maverick buggy,hes been paying someone 300 bucks to change the oil and filter!he does hes own cars oil but is misled into thinking this is special?he bought the genuine kit with oil and filters and crush washers(heaven forbid you re use them?) @ 104 bucks on special from somewhere,we did it in my driveway in bout 45 minutes,bit fiddly for an oil change but not Hi tech,I told him next time get a generic filter and some brand name oil and itll be 60 bucks all up!

Amazing but true. I just bought a TORO “Timecutter” zero turn mower (for my wife!). A neighbour has one and despite his best efforts to destroy it, seems like one tough machine. He took his in for the 50 hour, “First Service”. Dealer charged him +$200 and from what I can see they blew out the air filter and changed the oil and filter! Generic filter and two litres of Castrol SAE 30. Jeez.

Bought a project - a 1966 Mustang Fastback!  My Dad had one when I was a young boy and I've wanted one ever since. It's a major project, been sitting for many years but being a Texas car, there is minimal rust. 
We plan to evaluate the 289[?] engine this week.

We plan to evaluate the 289[?] engine this week.
