Topic: What did you do to your non-motorcycle vehicle today?

  Yeah the big one is a model number 1864 , has a wide cut , sits tall , hydraulic deck and steering , mudder rear tires and an aftermarket cup holder. don't know what year...traded it for a 2000and something ford truck with a turbo 7.3...hated that truck.
   Had a 1967 yellow IH cub with dual wheels for years , great machine ,very heavy ....aways got buried in my yard in the spring, sold it to my neighbor 10 years ago, he's still cutting with it  .
   Got the smaller yellow lawn tractor from a friend that had a wire harness fire, burned the wires and made a smokey mess... insurance company bought him a new one , I bought his old one  and have been running it  for years, no issues.
  Both are a bit dented and tweaked now but still run well  although The 1864 is loosing oil in all the wrong places and repairs had been pushed back or forgotten since the knee surgeries started 3 years ago.
   But now it's winter and I'm ready to go cut some grass!

I took the little twin turbo Subaru for a 400 mile drive last week to spend a couple of days keeping an eye on my 97 year old Ma, while my big sister was in the US visiting her American daughter. I’m happy to report that it went perfectly, and I had fun throwing it around corners on the backroad for the last 30 miles of the drive to my old home town. I did drive it “sensibly” for most of the drive though, and averaged 35 MPG, which is pretty good.

I did discover an electrical issue though, when I turn the ignition off, it cleared the trip meter, and disabled the central locking and head unit etc. When this model arrived in Australia Subaru had aftermarket alarm systems installed, which were not great, and would drain the battery if the cars weren’t driven regularly. It looks like mine has been removed by a previous owner, and I assume that this has caused the issue.

No biggie, but I have to remember to manually lock the car when I park it. Apart from that, it’s a little rocket, and I pissed off a young guy in a V8 Holden (GM) when he thought he could beat me off the lights in one little town on the drive down, and I left him in my dust..

I took the Wife's SUV and my Truck through the carwash yesterday.   With the sand and salt on the roads it was glorious.   Of course there were missed places here and there, but now I know what color they are once more....

When I bought the Subaru, the previous owner had removed the head unit, so I bought a new Sony head unit, and some Sony speakers. I installed the head unit before the drive down to my home town, and discovered that he’d also removed the speakers, so as I didn’t have time to route the speaker cables under the carpet etc, I just ran the speaker wires under the seat and put the speakers on the floor in the back. The sound was crap, think 1970’s speakers with no amplifier, that was what I was getting.

When I came back home I saw some “under seat” sub woofers with built in amplifiers, so I bought a couple. Yesterday after a ride I decided to install them. Not a hard job, but I discovered that they wouldn’t fit under my seats, so just put them on the floor behind the seats. The sound is fantastic and I’m really happy with them, but today I’m taking the wife and mother in law out for lunch to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary, so will need to move one speaker off the floor so someone can sit in the back and not have to put their feet on my speaker. 99% of the time this won’t be necessary, but it’s annoying, so I think I’ll have to rethink my approach.

Not mine, but helped my buddy transport a 1948[?] Ford Tractor to his Ranch, he recently inherited from his father-in-law.

It's in great shape, four cylinder, four speed, fires right up and has just the right amount of patina.

I knew Larry, he owned it for decades and used it to cut grass on his 10 acre ranch in N Texas.
Sadly, it will just become yard art now as my friend has modern tractors but will be a nice momento of Larry...RIP.

It's in great shape, four cylinder, four speed, fires right up and has just the right amount of patina.

Today we finally got around to laying out and drilling the four holes in the deck to mount the front wheel chock for the bikes on the 12' trailer. Then I set it up and welded on four flange nuts to the bottom of the deck so it's easy to mount. I'll shorten up four button head bolts for plugs to keep the threads clear.
No pictures yet, I sprayed the rust sealer on and had to leave because of the fumes.

Darn modern in tank fuel pump installed in my old 76 Cherokee chief died while 80miles home.

Has a fuel tank and delphi pump for a 91 S10 Blazer.

Got super lucky we were in a town with an oreilly auto parts store.  Hotwired an Edelbrock inline pump and it got me home.  Gonna be keeping this thing in the spare parts box with the tools in the jeep.

I know these are gravity pumps, but in a pinch it gave good fuel pressure for the carb mounted as it was.   Carbs for the win.

For sure glad I had a fuel pressure gauge.  Really helped quickly identify issue when it happened.

Joe…. When you open the tank, just mount a pick up line in there a d mount a pump externally. In tank pumps make no sense to me…..

This is the longer run plan.  But for now I already had a replacement pump module so installed for time being.

I want to redo all the supply and return lines this summer so will do it then.

I put my C.A.R.B. correct catalytic converter in my grand daughter's Camry. It is built into the exhaust manifold. Had to modify it so the heat shields would fit properly,  but i got it. I HATE C.A.R.B. , I got a super deal on the cat and it was only about 2 or 3 times the price of a non-c.a.r.b. part. But it was around half the price of the exact same one for over the counter price at the parts stores! $562 shipped, woohoo!

My daughter's catalytic converter was just stolen last week. At least we don't have to do C.A.R.B. crazy stuff, I just need to fix it. She went to the ballet in Seattle and was parked in the parking garage when it was stolen. I wonder how many other people lost their catalytic converter that day? I grew up there but Seattle has been turned into a #$%*hole.

My neighbor had his stolen from his truck (4 cats) I think it was around a 4 grand or more insurance claim. The low life like trucks because they can get under and out easy.

The Getrag V160 6-speed gearbox for the racing LEXUS has fresh synchros, bearings, seals and one billet shift fork….. Also picked up a short shifter kit. Discovered the rubber bushings for the cage that locates the remote shifter are all shot. Made up some aluminum bushings to replace them today.

Tim is building two engines for this season and we just discovered the crank we finished the season with is cracked! Next job is to strip down the two spares we have a dig out the best crank…..

The parts for the Getrag gearbox came from Jack’s Transmission in TEXAS. They were really special machining. The shift forks are machined from billet and allthe synchro rings are carbon fibre! The short shifter included all new amounts and bushings for the shifter “tower”. What a difference!

Engine and gearbox are going back in. Front fenders, body work and paint next. Six weeks to our first race weekend.

Getrag makes very good transmissions, obviously originally a German company, they have manufactured trans for BMW, Jag, Dodge, Maserati, Ford and a car that I have always wanted: Toyota Supra Twin Turbo
