400F switchgear routing.
« on: March 06, 2018, 05:37:45 AM »
Hello,
I've got all of the electrical working on my 400; I lengthened all of the handlebar switch wires so that they would be long enough to route from the handlebar hole and around the top of the right side of the stem and then down to the connections under the tank ala page 110 of the manual (supplement).
Some force is required to get the tank into place and it also seems strange to be able to see harnesses between the front of the tank and the steering tube.
Was this an early routing shown in the manual that was later done away with?
It seems to me that it would have been simpler and cleaner to route the control looms under the front left of the tank to the connectors in front of the coils.
I'm learning with the 400 that Honda didn't like to do the same thing twice. >:(
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Here is the way mine is routed and I can get the tank on quite easily. The large black bundle of wires on the left side needs to be properly secured and moved inward as much as possible or the tank inner side will bind on it causing you problems.

There is also a U clamp under the lower triple tree that captures the large wire from the headlight area. The other wires from the two handlebar switches are routed over the top of the backbone on the right hand side of the frame and down through the metal bracket that sits under the left side round rubber tank mount.
