Rockingham - ManCup Update
« on: June 03, 2018, 02:45:10 PM »
Just talked to Billy. They had a really HOT weekend.
He and Wilbur made a few rounds both days.
They will post later with more specifics.

It was hot but fortunately we had a breeze blowing both days. In fact a few canopies went flying including one of mine. 😞

I didn't take my Honda this time. It hasn't slowed down but I really need to make time for freshening it up. I entered the small tire Kaw bar bike in super comp but hurt the transmission in the last qualifying pass so I rolled it in the trailer. I ran my no bar KZ in the crazy 8's class. I ended up loosing in first round on a double breakout pass. My opponent ran an 8.84 and I clicked off an 8.81 on the 8.88 index. The wife went three rounds Saturday but rolled out of the beams and redlighted 4th round.

This is my last qualifying pass from Saturday. Ran a little too quick for the 8.88 index. The pass before this was a 9.13 because the bike spun and then wheelied off the line so it screwed my spot up on the ladder sheet. I've got to make some changes to this bike over the winter. A longer arm and some clutch changes are necessary to make it more consistent.

My loosing time slip from the first round. I crossed the line first but Didn't quite slow down enough to keep from breaking out.

It was definitely hot. Bill experienced what appeared to be some overheating of his Dyna S ignition. With the points cover left off the ignition woes subsided.

Friday turnout was quite low, which helped me get my monies worth for test-n-tune. I could make a pass, come right back around and make another pass with no waiting. You would think with 14 test passes I could at least pulled off one decent pass. I even stopped testing at one point and took a nap. My biggest takeaway from Friday was that I still need a lot of practice!

Lost round two on Saturday with a false neutral between 3-4 shift. Haven't done that in a long time. Made it to round three Sunday when my opponent broke out by just a few thousandths. I'll take lucky any day of the week! Lost round three in a close race with the difference being the margin between my ET and my overly optimistic dial-in.

I was off my game this weekend, most of which I attribute to driving all day Thursday to get there. I didn't really seem to start to shake it until Sunday, and then got back in the truck and drove back home. Still reeling from the "jet lag". It was good to see Bill, Frank, Gladys, and even got to see Gladys win a round in Pro ET. After I got beat in round two on Saturday I spent part of the day as "umbrella girl"!  :o  ;)  ;D

Much more later....DYNA only acted up after EXTREME heat inside...when the flange 6mm nut on advancer starts rubbing the inside of RC cover , it builds heat and loosens nut! It blued the metal advancer it got so hot! Not Dyna's fault at all,  surprised it worked at all.....wouldn't work with cover on.... going install another good one, popping out of 5th or not going in biggest problem on Purple Rain. Cobra Girl had airshifter problems,  fixed now!  Ohio,  here we come!!

Bill, be sure you test the bike under load to confirm what we did works properly. As I explained, you might need to remove some material from the collar to allow additional adjustment for kill time.

BILL: You really coming to my neck of the woods in OHIO ? You will love this track and we spent the whole day there at NHRO watching Dustin Lee run in many classes. Some day maybe they MAN CUP can afford to have a NORWALK race like the old days of IDBA as those owners race there themselves [ BEST IN THE LAND 1320' ]

Pops, I might still need your help in picking up a pro mod body from Beasely in Ohio and bringing it to Billy. Hopefully he'll agree to bring it back down south for me and i'll pick it up in Atlanta. Shipping that oversize package is expensive. I'm hoping to build a 4.60 index bike for next season. Got an old Koenig  bare pro mod chassis as a base.

I'm basically cobbling one together at this point Pops. It was once a complete bike that got parted out. I bought the bare chassis with no body, only the motor plate  and axle blocks. I've got front  and rear wheels but have to source a front end to make it a roller. I've got a local guy who can build me a set of wheelie bars. No rush on this one so i'll take my time finding the other parts. Maybe i'll have it ready by the middle of next season.

Good luck up there Bill. They're running the super eliminator class at
this event. I won't be there so no challenges from my F model. Time for you to set a new record😁.

By the way, I might need some help from you to transport an oversized box back down south. Provided that is, if Pops detours to pick the package up and delivers it to Dragway 42.

WIBUR: Great job for a SOHC-4 to be in the top 10 in ST/ET = with no air shifter them Busa riders must be mad when the OLD WAR horse takes them down. Stay away from this Dustin Lee rider as I watched him go many rounds in many classes at NHRDO at Dragway  42 in my neck of the woods [ OHIO ].

LOL  ;D

I know I am glad to see it. A number of the rounds that I've lost were by a narrow margin. Hopefully I am on my game at the next event. I think some of the other riders are starting to avoid me...  :o  ;)  ;D

Meh, it is what it is. I roll to the lanes when I'm ready and whomever happens to be sitting there when I get there will be my lucky opponent!  8)  (until we reach the laddered rounds)

That's our "neck of the woods" by the way, seeing as how I grew up in Bellefontaine and went to High School in Lima. Still got folks in Lima and Columbus.  ;)

Being the slower bike can have its advantages. Especially if the rider cuts a better light and can run close to his dial in. You've proven that you can work both ends of the track. Now you've got me thinking about bringing out my stock K8. Lol

Keep it up- you're making us proud brother.

WIBUR: Great job for a SOHC-4 to be in the top 10 in ST/ET = with no air shifter them Busa riders must be mad when the OLD WAR horse takes them down.

LOL  ;D

I know I am glad to see it. A number of the rounds that I've lost were by a narrow margin. Hopefully I am on my game at the next event. I think some of the other riders are starting to avoid me...  :o  ;)  ;D

Stay away from this Dustin Lee rider as I watched him go many rounds in many classes at NHRDO at Dragway  42 in my neck of the woods [ OHIO ].

Still got folks in Lima and Columbus.  ;)

WILBUR: This Drag Way 42 is all NEW MAKE OVER and in time it will be the MINI  NORWALK RACEWAY [ The Best in the LAND. ] When me and my lady went up to watch NHDRO event at this track me and her had a great day watching [ like THUNDER VALLEY ] sitting on the hill surrounding the 1320' of smooth track. Bring shade it's been 90-100 here in this neck of the woods. Roads in OHIO ARE REALLY BAD but from Columbus North on IS-71 not to bad. Maybe MAN CUP can come back to National Trails some day as the owners could remember the days of IDBA when they raced there and the lanes were full. Those days were the best ask any old head about those events.
