Topic: Shinko 705's on my CB750K1 with ComStar rims!

I am looking at these Shinko 705's for my CB750K1, with the ComStar rims from a 1978 CB750A. The front tire is a 110/80-19, and the rear is a 130/90-17. I know the rear will fit fine, just not sure if the 110/80 profile will fit without interference problems inside the fender/forks. Current tire are Dunlop D404's 100/90-19 and 130/90-17. If so, I am considering these as they have very good ratings, and awesome looks. Whaddya think, fellas?

I had Shinkos Inliked just fine, but dual sport ties on a pure street bike make no sense.  You sacrifice performance for appearance,  never a great choice for a bike that isn't intended too be a rarely ridden show bike.

I agree, Danny. But the reviews stated that they had awesome grip on the road, in wet and dry conditions. So I thought, hey... they have to be better than the D404's I have on here now, and I like Shinko 712's they rock on the road really well. These look pretty aggressive, and as the reviews were on several different bikes from DR650's to R1200GS bikes, they all were very positive for on road usage.
Now, do you think the 110/80-19 would fit ok on the front? That's pretty much my concern, the rim isn't very wide, and there is no recommended rim width in any specifications I have found for these 705's.

I would stick with the correct size regardless of the tire used. I put a 120 width on a rim where a 110 was the stock size. The tire did clear the front fender supports just barely, yet there was quite a difference in how the bike rode compared to the correct sized tire.

I found the road irregularity was much more noticeable over the stock sized tire and the front end wasn't as responsive to steering input.

Just my 2 cents yet I wouldn't do that again. I think Honda has probably tried every configuration be it in carburation, braking and tires when they engineered these bikes back in the day.

The trouble with tyres (or tires) is that each manufacturer takes a few liberties with their sizes Charlie, so sometimes you won't know until you try them. I've got the same forks and fender on my K2 bitsa as you have, my front Michelin Commander II tyre is a 100-90/19 and it (just) rubs on one of the fender stays. Not enough to make a mark on the tyre, but enough for me to hear it squeak when I wheel it out of the Tardis to work on it.

I wouldn't go an 80 though, unless you like that dirt bike look, with a nice big gap betwixt fender and tire? Stinko tires aren't bad, I don't normally recommend cheap tyres, but I put Stinko whitewalls on my big black Goldwang and they looked great and seemed to work pretty well too. Cheers, Terry.

Yeah... wish they made a 100/90-19 in that tire (tyre)... I was hoping someone had tried it. I know that the 80 profile also requires a wider rim too, along with it being a 110 width, so I guess it will have to be a 100/90-19 front... if I could find another one that would match that 130/90-19 rear though... I would be tempted to use the 705 on the rear!! It really does look sweet! Appreciate the feedback!!

By the way, Terry those whitewalls do look nice on the Old Wing, and probably handle just fine... Shinko used to be Yokohama, or division of them, something like that, so they do make a pretty good tyre (tire)

the 705 is like an ADV tire?? Are you sure that's what you want? I have those on my 2006 Triumph Scrambler and they are great for that kind of bike, but a 750K???

Give the Shinko 712's a look. I just put a set on a bike I'm building. They look great and have original sizes.

I love the Shinko 712's, and they will be my go-to tires if I can't find some cool looking aventure tires like the 705's. I have read good reviews on those, and I gave a great review on the 712's back about 5 years ago, I put a set on a 82 Yamaha XZ550 Vision, and used it in my race school at Nelson Ledges track.. they gripped like GLUE! I will probably use the 712's as they do have the sizes I need... still looking at the 705 for the rear lol... it's a cool tread!

Yeah seen them used on a BMW R1200GS also! The fellow really liked the way they handled on the pavement, wet or dry.

Actually have a 130/90-17 Dunlop D404 on there now, and it fits pretty well. I wouldn't be adverse to looking at a 120/90-17 though but there ain't a lot of rears in that size lol...

Hi Chris,
   I have used the Kendas before, but not the dual purpose. I had the K671 on the RD350, and have used the Kenda Challenger on other bikes. They do A good job, and ride pretty decently. I noticed the only front tire in the K761's is a 90/90-21, the 100/90-19 is listed as a rear. The tread looks pretty nice though! I am wondering if they are listed as use on either front or rear? They appear only to be listed as a rear, but the 120/90-17 rear looks pretty cool.

Actually, Yokohama sold the tire technology and molds to Shinko back in '98 and then they started production in Korea. They had been a bicycle tire producer in Japan....

Just found out the Shinko 705 comes in a 120/90-17 rear... And actually, would be a better fit on the Comstar rear. I am seriously considering that for the rear, and a 100/90-19 for the front... Both tires, delivered to my door, for a tad over $100. I kinda like that! The 712 in the front will handle rain grooves and track well, as I had no problem with that tire on the Vision, and the rear... well, it should follow along like Mary's little lamb lol.

Well a bit more expensive here than in the US (what a fcuking surprise........) but these 804/805 Stinko's for my R1100GS are still 25% cheaper than the better known brand names, and do look cools, so they're on my list!

Definitely has that Military look hehe... the Shinko 705's have a little less aggressive look, but should do better on pavement, too. There are reviews of them on R1200GS's, and they like them!
