Riding boots
« on: March 10, 2018, 03:30:10 PM »
Anyone know of a good rain-proof riding boot that comes in wide widths?

Currently I'm in Sidi Armadas and while they fit fine, on long rides they get really cramped.  Looking for something that comes in something akin to a EE or EEEE width - nice roomy boot that would let my toes wiggle around while I'm in the saddle for a long time.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sidi's, they're just a bit too narrow.

I wear a size 13 EEEE shoe typically.

Edit:  I should add, I'm looking for shoes because my Sidi's are about 4 years old and the stitching on the heel wore out and now the heel's dangling.

Well, I believe these should be wide enough, and since you haven't had any suggestions, I found these... ;D

What do you take me for - a Harley rider?

Heaven's NO! I would never infer that you rode a Harley... ;)
But Hi-Viz could be a factor to a safe ride lol

I don't know from rain-proof boots - with the exception of Wellingtons. I'm not being facetious, I don't know how they would be to ride in, but damn, they're wide and waterproof.

While I posted a pic of a clown on a Harley - stolen shamelessly from some other site (the pic not the bike :)), in actuality when looking around for boots that fit wider feet - I am generally finding that I have to look to cruiser style boots.  Presumably the heel shifter configuration lends itself to a more "normal" boot configuration than the somewhat tucked in riding position that is taken on a street bike.

My only real problem with that is pretty much all of the boots I've seen are "fair weather" boots - waterproofing isn't a consideration.  The other issue I find is that those kind of boots don't fit very well under the shifter of many of the Japanese bikes - my CB750 has a pretty tight shifter location, as does the 550.

Oh well, I'll continue my search.  I can't be the only person with duck feet who rides motorcycles.

You may want to look to water-proof hiking boots. Sorry man, dunno. I know I'm riding home today - in the rain - in cowboy boots. ::)

I have a size 12 EEE shoe as well. I found these from TourMaster. I like them, waterproof, and do give a little.

Those look good, Bob! Toe protector for the shifter, too! :)

Have you looked at TCX Infinity boots ? They are goretex lined and are definitely much wider than Sidis, I've been using a pair daily since 2013 and they still look in great condition and are only now developing a small leak on one side, which is very impressive as I've rarely found boots last more than 2-3 years.

Well, I'm sure you're all waiting with baited breath...

I ordered a pair of TCX boots - nothing fancy, just slip on motorcycle boots.  Should be fine for multiple shifter styles and they look like I could actually walk in them.

We'll see how they do Tim.

Great looking boot! And if they wear as well as Tim stated, should serve you well for a few years!
Not much on Hi-Vis though ;)

Chippewa makes E and EE widths in most of their boots. They make a number of different motorcycle appropriate styles from traditional Engineer and Police style riding boots to a sort of modernized, but still fairly traditional riding boot like this one.

Their boots are made in America with good year welts that make them easy to resole. If you treat them with sno-seal they should be reasonably waterproof for rain, but I wouldn't use them as waders.
