1978 cb750k spark plug gap recommendation
« on: March 09, 2018, 05:09:41 PM »
I am slowly going through my 78 750k and have the spark plugs up next,(carbs torn down now) The manual calls for .024 - .028 . I just purchased the denso x24es plugs. I am running stock coils and wires with stock points. do I want to go closer to the .024 or the .028? I have a dyna-s that I will be installing once I have the bike up and running and would like to see if anyone has any recommendations as to the gap for each situation. Thanks

I'd just check the gap of the new spark plugs and as long as they're within specs, they'll do fine. Overthinking it and then adjusting what doesn't need adjusting can do more harm than good.

the reason I question it is I came across this site http://www.randakksblog.com/spark-plug-tricks/ which states that if you go to a dyna s that you should actually go to .032-.035, from the original gap . I normally just set the gap to the middle because they don't always come gapped properly and just stick them in. When I did my valves on my other bike I was told to go to the larger gap to get a longer life between adjustments. Thought someone here might have some experience.

If you have the stock coils, use the stock spark plug gap.   Dyna-s is just a points substitution device (a poorly designed one at that, imo).  It doesn't add extra voltage to stock coils.   Bigger spark gaps need higher voltage to arc reliably.
