CB750: Anybody tried Z1 parts aftermarket tacho?
« on: March 11, 2018, 05:48:18 AM »
This tacho is said to fit both CB750 and 500/550.
https://z1parts.net/gauge-tachometer-honda-cb750/
Or complete setup:
https://z1parts.net/honda-gauge-set-cb750-cb550/
It cannot be the truth since CB750 has different gear ratio than CB500/550.
I noticed that when I bought a CB500 tacho to my CB750, way too many rpms.

I guess it will work on a CB750.
Anybody that has tested?

Do not waste your money, it is garbage. It looks great, but it works for about 50 miles or so, then the needle bounces so badly it is useless. By ounces, I mean it swings between 2 and 6000 rpm! I tried 2 of them. I can't believe they still sell this, because they gave me my money back instead of sending another unit stating it was a known problem. I ended up getting a gauge from a forum member, then restoring it using one of Marcel's kits. Hope this helps.

Thanks for those important bad experiences.
That is bad because the complete set look really good and should fit my K2 build. It has not the correct fastening with rings and rhino horn. The faces are very close to K2 though.

I'll look for a K2 setup then. Maybe a member here might have a complete set with rhino horn. Speedo with Mph can be restored with km/h face plate from cb750faces.com.
I had first planned to use my K6 gauges and use a K6 NOS set on my K6.
But the NOS meters look too nice, they'll stay in their boxes...

It is difficult to find NOS K2, K6 with shining green and later fastening easier. I'll not pay 1000 USD or more that some wants for a NOS set speedo + tacho. With Rhino horn like a good bike (not CB)

Yes, they are hard to find in good condition. Since my k2 isn't a correct restoration, I just went with the later style (k3 I think) gauges/tree/mount. I won't be selling it, and the setup looks great to me.

They had a bad batch, and I got one too. They replaced it instantly, without question, and the replacement worked fine. Call them up and give them a chance to respond Dave, they are good people and more than honorable.

K3 faces look exactly as K2, right? Only different fastening of the meters.

Ok, so they had a bad batch only? The tacho is still for CB750 only?

It is complicated when buying parts from USA and need to replace it with shipping both ways to and from Europe. Shipping from here will cost like a gauge or more. Our postal service charge double than Germany and UK, sometimes even more.

Mine was for a Z1, so I cannot say. Just drop them a line PeWe, you will likely speak with Adriana. They are really great people, they will do what they can to make any problem right, that is my first-hand experience.

K2 are one year only. The mph is: 20, 40,60, etc. the K3 is: 10,20,30,40, etc.

I agree, the company is honorable. As you say, they did send me a new one right away no questions asked. The new one did the exact same thing. It was the third time that they just gave me my money back. Hopefully they got the issue fixed. I was just tired of dealing with a crappy part thats why I just restored a Honda gauge. I have bought many other things from them since.

In Europe K2 was delivered between 1972-1975, until K6 came 1976-77. NO K3, K4, K5 here.
On top of that km/h on the speedo face plate. The plate can be replaced, new are available
