If it's only DOT approved, maybe we should keep shopping.

Looks like one of those 100% of minimum things the Government is soooooooo good at.

Hi Don - I think this is a subject that would be more appropriate for one of the general forums on the site. It is an important issue you've raised but the HiPo forum was set up to focus purely on race & high performance topics. If you contact the moderators they can get it moved for you.

I'm not so sure. The tracks hold higher requirements as to helmets and I'm sure hipo riders do too.

Truth. AHMRA requires Snell rating on helmets and just revised the rule from 2010 to 2015 rating. They also need to be made within the prior 60 months.

Thats my point really - its a piece about the deficiencies of DOT testing, which is irrelevant if you are buying the helmet for racing as higher standards for track use apply, and it is completely irrelevant to the many forum users who dont live in the States as DOT is only a domestic standard for US consumers.

I'm a car drag racer and my original post was comparing dot and snell testing and helmet cost vs quality. I was wondering if an SA2015 snell drag racing helmet could also be appropriate for use on my bike on and off track. I agree the average non racing rider may be interested also.

Snell has different standards, and testing methods for car & bike helmets. Has to do with the way your head gets bounced round.  I've owned both SA for cars, & M for bikes.

Thanks for the link Don. I watched several of his many videos, and while a little corny at times, found them to be interesting and informative.
