Topic: CB650 1982 won't start

Hey guys,

I just bought a CB650 1982 and I'm having issues starting the bike. The previous owner assured me it was working fine before storing it for winter. Battery is good and I even tried with a car's battery to get more juices . I checked a spark plug against the motor and saw the blue spark.So it seems like I have fire. I tried shooting starting fluid in the airbox, only got small engine pop at the exhaust but nowhere near running. Engine will turn but never run. Any ideas?

Are you sure fuel is getting to the carbs? Try turning the drain screw on each float and making sure fuel is draining out of them.

Not sure but, by 82 you may find a vacuum operated fuel tap shutoff.  Find your tank fuel tap and see if there is a vacuum line going to it.  You might have to supply vacuum with a hand pump to gas gas to flow into the carbs and fill the bowls.

The vacuum diaphragm can crack too, and never allow the fuel to flow.  Also can be checked with a hand pump to see if it holds the vacuum given it.

Even without fuel getting to the carb, it should have run a couple seconds with the starting fluid?

If you had the right air fuel mix for 2 seconds, yes.
