Do they make sets of multimeter lead adapters?
« on: January 30, 2018, 03:48:36 PM »
I need a pack adapters of various sorts you can connect easily to whatever you're testing. I'd love to get that Amazon prime shipped asap. This is why I've never gotten a decent understanding of electronics concepts because of clumsy dangerous electric probing scares me. I need a nice pack of adapters to make this smooth.

Something like this?:

hmm... is that the best there is? I was imagining perfect fits for each type of terminal/connection, Just a set of specific common adapters. But thanks

You can buy the parts and make your own.  I used silicone insulated wire (great for high/low temp work) and made several sets of leads with plug ends then I use the tips I need.  Time consuming to make but they are durable and versatile.

Yep, they clip on any terminal rather safely. But, nothing can save you from...

Standard probes and jumper wires with alligator clips on the ends is all you should need.

thanks. I don't know what you guys are talking about. I have and use alligator clips. They struggle to stick to half the different contacts most used and often bump into neighboring ones. Like rather I'd like to have a nice insulated rectangular single tab adapter that would fit onto those flat pins, or how about the female ones that you have to risk deforming sticking the probe into or any others you can't use the clips for? You know you'd love to have the perfect adapter.

Search up Pomona Electronics. They make a lot of probes. Thr little hook tips clip securely and are small enough to not touch adjacent terminals on bike size connectors.

super universal test probe kit needed here https://imgur.com/a/qAvmD

this is what I'm talking about. impossible with only two hands. i want a little Keychain with a few of these most common connections, male and female, all with a little butt on the end to insert your standard probes. i bet alibaba has them for a nickel piece for 10k.

As mentioned above, if you want test leads with CB specific connectors on them it would be simple enough to make them yourself. The time and expense of doing so would really not be worth it unless you are rebuilding a lot of bikes. Test probes and alligator clips should be sufficient for general electrical troubleshooting. I work as an electrical technician for a major metropolitan utility. 95+% of the time that is what we use for troubleshooting circuits with a multimeter. Anything more specific we will fabricate.

For example, you could make up some short jumpers with male and female bullet connectors on one end and clips on the other to plug into the harness and clip to your test leads. I don’t think you will find such an item available commercially.

on ociloscopes you have those hooks..they are almost isolated..and the hook comes only aut ,by pressing the plastic buttom..and it retracks back in the isolation after use..thgink you can get them to fit to banana male konnektor..then you can make a set of soft vire male/male konektors..they vill vork fine alone too..and hooked up vith the hook ociliscope hooks they vill be perfekt for safty messurungs..
but at aur elektro shop ve just used the standart ..up to 48 volt 50 amps..you are almostr safe for elektric choks...

hmm, I not sure what #s 5 & 6 are. but thanks. looks like they do have what I looking for but maybe you gotta get a few different ones to get the ultimate set. I'll keep looking. I like that these:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/16pcs-Multifunction-Digital-Multimeter-Probe-Test-Lead-Cable-Alligator-Clip-Tool-/173056430029

have these round tipped ones with slots to fit over the tiny terminals but I've yet to see the opposite that they go into like in my last pic, the female ends. look like you'd need a metal tooth pick for those, or standard probe but skinnier. cool. and they are like a thousand pieces for a nickel each lol. I'll start a collection in my shopping cart.

# 5 & 6 in that photo are banana plugs. They screw into the leads and the leads will then plug into the receptacles on your meter. You can put them on both ends of the leads and then piggyback into other banana plug receptacles. They are the same thing as what you call "the round tipped ones with the slots" except photographed from a different angle. If you look closely you can see the slots in #5 & 6.

The other items you are referring to are retractable test probe hooks. The hooks are spring loaded. You will hook them onto a test point or the leads from an electronic component and the spring tension will hold them in place.

As you can see, most of the test lead sets that are commercially available are designed for use on standard electrical and electronic equipment and components. Anything that you purchase will likely have to be adapted to use on specific motorcycle connectors and terminals.
