if it's still in good shape use it again.  i just changed mine today.  yamahawk tipped me off on using chassis grease on both sides of the gasket.  holds it in place nicely while placing the cover on.

I use a little contact cement on the cover side and chap stick on the engine side. That way the gasket stays on the cover and slips off the case when you take it apart again. The cover is easier to clean up on the work bench if you need to remove it.

i believe it is.  not sure on the special tool.  this is beyond my current pay grade.  quote "progas", "swoop" and "jgger"'s posts in a reply.  someone should pipe up soon.  what bike is it?

It's rumored a big bolt or the oil filter bolt will remove it. I've never had luck with that and bought a puller bolt for a few bucks off ebay.  In my opinion the oil filter bolt is too delicate.

There are springs and rollers in the starter clutch. I've had them jump out of place before. I stretched the springs a little, reassembled and so far so good.

You might have leaked gas into the cylinder causing it to lock up, that would explain why the kickstart doesn't turn it over. Then you would have to check your starter clutch, behind the dyno cover to see if the bolts are sheared off. You did say you had a gas leak right??

How can i fix that ? if i have this cylinder locked up..

If you did leak gas into your cylinder, you would have to take the spark plugs out and kick it over. Yes, you do need a special puller for the rotor, easy to get on ebay, or I've heard you can use your rear axle(same thread). If you hurt your gasket you will have to replace it of course, I use gasketcinch to hold the gasket in place. Inside your starter clutch are three rollers, three spring caps, and three springs, the rollers need to be checked for flat spots along with the surface of the starter gear which they roll on. If your starter motor needs help, Rick's motor sports electrics can re-build that one for you or sell you a new one. They are located in New Hampshire and are great to deal with!

Do you have the large flat washer that goes with that also ? Hopefully just replacing that will make for an easy fix. You do not have a location listed, are you in the USA. Plenty of those gears around, not a rare item.

i'm in europe, but i've found someone selling the reduction gear. I have the large flat washer.

I'm wondering what can cause teeths to brake..

yes look good, i'm wondering if i don't have some play at the shaft of the starting motor. I'll check later on when back from work.

My concern would be, where are those missing teeth? Hopefully they stayed in the dyno cover. I'd do a little recovering and counting.

There is no play at all at the starting motor shaft really dont know how those teeth broke. Lack of oil ?
