Shipping bikes overseas

Hey guys,

I've been talking to some local Honda enthusiasts and a couple of these guys ship motorcycles over to Europe and Brazil. Does anyone here do that sort of thing and willing to converse about it? I travel to India all the time and I've been noticing more and more that the custom bike scene trying to gain some traction over there. All I see are the small CC bikes though so I'm wondering...would it be worth it?

What kind of things do I need to take into consideration, I'm thinking about going this summer and maybe trying to hunt down some local shops and chatting about it.

so you want to ship old Hondas to india?i think import tax is pretty heavy?

Are you shipping for business (to sell) or for pleasure (to ride)? I have shipped to Europe for a couple of years (personal use) and as long as you have owned the vehicles for x period of time (6 mths to a year) there is no import tax only shipping fees (roll-on-roll-off is cheapest option - or at least was in 2001 - 2003: New Jersey to Europe was $750.

Ok, good bit of info on the time frame of ownership, yes this would be for business purposes and not pleasure. I have an uncle who is in business over there and he would assist with organizing the shipping and what not. Just curious is all I guess, Would like to get one of my bikes over there to go north and do some scenic riding as well. I think it would be cool to get some hard to find bikes over to custom shops and see what they crank out.  I was also thinking about buying bikes and taking them to the west coast to sell, we have lots of sport bikes with low mileage every off season for sale floating around...a bike with 5k on the clock is like heaven for a daily commuter in California.

Yeah,, Rajdoot 350's would be cool... A good, low mile example is pretty nice!
