CB350F project

Hi everyone, my name is Chris, I’m very new to using forums. I’m starting a 350F project and I’ve never done this so I was Hoping you guys could give me some pointers as to where to start (much appreciated). You can see (if I attached the image properly) that the bike is barely a bike and in need of a lot of rust removal. I’ll post more details when I can.

First thing to do is to pull the dipstick and inspect the oil. Smell like gas? Is it contaminated with water? Is there any in the engine??? If it appears in good condition, does the kickstart lever rotate the motor? If so, then perform the 3k Service. If not, strap in for some work...

If it won’t rotate because the motor is locked up, pull the spark plugs. Get a quart of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil. Mix them 50/50, and drizzle it into the plug holes, directly into the cylinders.

Motors that have sat a long time can often become “seized” due to moisture rusting the piston rings to the cylinder walls. The mixture above, is great at eating the rust in a non-destructive way, and seeping past the rings to release the pistons. It will take some time, days in fact. Be patient. Keep refilling it. Don’t remove the motor from the frame as having it in there will let you use the transmission (put it in gear) and rock the bike back and forth to help free the motor.

All of this is only if the motor is seized.

I’ve finally been able to start working on the bike, not too much has happened. Adjusted tappets, removed some dirt and grime that, changed oil and removed carbs. I cleaned the carbs and when I did part of what I think Goes to the carb cane out. If anyone knows if it’s part of the carb or where it goes it’d be much appreciated.

Its part of the linkset that was one piece but seems to have broken off. Number 8 in the partsmanual e-19 diagram

Get a small ultrasonic cleaner, take the carbs all the way down and clean them in a 50-50 mix of simple green and water. Be sure to keep the parts together as sets. There are other good cleaners too, I had great results with simple green. A stronger mix is not kind to the aluminum.
