Fezz - make sure you clean the powder coat completely off the inside, upper frame boss on the right side where the battery ground cable is installed. Any coating there can wreak havoc with your charging system later.

Thanks!  I was going to ask that.  Just scrape it off with a small chisel?

Also, on the cb500, I think there is a place near where the coils get installed that needs bare metal to ground correctly?  Did I see that in Ron's excellent assembly PDF?

After I delivered my frame to the powder coater, I came across a reference to a "frame coil tab" or perhaps on parts list page 122, item #19, Ref. 50400-323-000, PROTECTOR, ignition coil wire.  I thought I recalled seeing it on my frame but didn't remove it.

It looked in pictures that on the cb500 K0 it was on the frame above the coils and should not be painted.  I asked them to remove, but I didn't get it back today.  (Or I imagined seeing it.)  Anyone familiar with that part on a 71 cb500 K0?

One thing about buying a parts bike, as opposed to one intact I'm learning, you become very familiar with the parts manual as many smaller pieces, nuts, bolts, washers, etc. are tossed in boxes.  Learning to hunt, measure, identify.

Use a razor blade to score the area you want to remove before you scrape it off. That way you won't risk chips.

Just use some coarse sand paper and some steel wool afterwards. Do the same for the coil mounts.

A grinder works great if you can handle it.

Hehe... yeah... and don't forget to run a tap through all the threaded holes in your frame and triple tree where you will install bolts. This is important to remove the powder coat from those threads... you will thank yourself for doing so, or kick yourself for not doing so... ;)

What's that antenna looking thing on the lower triple?
Be sure to sand inside the holes where the fork tubes go....that thin coat of powder is enough to make it too tight to slip the forks through.

Great advice everyone, as always.  That antenna is a plug they didn't remove.  A few of them in there.

And is the location of the handlebars in the top yoke (triple) coated? If you coat the clamps also it will make fitting bars tight. Not sure what your plans are but I think that it relied on the earth from bars through here for starter circuit.

Good to know.  I'll attempt to verify the ground properties of the clamps.
