invincible tank liner. WTF UPDATE 4/13

I have a tank with the best patina ever. I have to save it.   But... the good 'ol PO put some sort of liner in it.  Of course it wasn't prepped right and it has failed.  I am having no luck removing it.  Usually, hot water softens the crappy ones enough to pull them out, sometimes in 1 or 2 pieces.    This liner is clear.  It is very rigid/brittle.  Almost like a thin piece of acrylic.    It laughed at undiluted muriatic acid - soaked for 8 hours.   It laughed at straight acetone too.  I really want to save this tank.  What else could I try short of cutting the bottom out.

Just had a gallon of MEK in it overnight.   STILL NOT SOFTENING THE LINER!!!  Wow.

Are you sure it isn't fiberglass resin? If it is, not much will phase it except today's gasoline lol... But you could try MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone), as it will dissolve fiberglass or just about anything else, including your patina'd paint job. I am amazed that 100% Acetone didn't take care of it, but if not, MEK might be your only recourse. Be VERY CAREFUL with it, safety goggles, etc...

My 750F has a sime-transparent epoxy liner in it installed by the PO. I have been working over time to strip it out. I would rather not use a liner, but this tank has runt in the usual F bike places and even though I have brazed up all the holes that have revealed themselves since I started stripping the liner out, I know more will eventually appear, so it is fresh line for me. I have a POR15 kit waiting to be installed once I am confident the old liner is gone.

What are you using to remove the old liner ?    Paint stripper ?

I have a gallon of MEK sitting in it currently.  Been in there overnight.  Still brittle this morning.   Good lord what a pain.  I have to save this tank.  I have to save this tank.  It is 95% of the reason that I bought it.

It is probably a Caswell liner. Give them a call and see what they recommend for removing.

if the mek doesent fully fix it once all rinsed out I wonder how boiling water might work?paint sits in the sun red hot so id chance it.
