1976 Honda cb550 TAIL LIGHT not working
« on: July 21, 2018, 06:33:45 AM »
So my brake lights work but not the tail light. I checked the wiring and everything seems fine all the way through to the headlight. Then I checked the fuses behind the side cover and it seems that its missing 2 fuses starting from the left. I believe the 7amp it says. Would this be the case? It is LED btw

do you have 12 volts at the brown wire that leads to the tailight?

There should be 5 spaces in the fusebox. This is for the MAIN 15A fuse, the HEAD 7A fuse, the TAIL 7A fuse, and two spares: one 15A and one 7A.
The TAIL fuse missing will do exactly what you describe, the tail light stays off. Except - and a good way to test wiring - it sshould come on with key in PARK.
Check that. On means bulb is OK and fuse or wiring is the problem.

I had this problem recently and even the mechanics who looked at it didn't understand. Then a hunch, I'd moved a lot of things while replacing all my brake hoses and it turns out I ad not put back correctly the terminal of the earth wire that runs to middle of the fork yoke, that sorted out and tail light worked again.
I brake for animals!

Idk what I did, but I took out the fuse next to the tail light one and put it back and all of the sudden it worked again lol. Thanks for all your input btw.

This is an indication that the backside of the fuse block contacts may be loose, worn, or corroded. Take a short break and remove the fuse block and inspect and clean the backside if such conditions are in fact present.
