All three candidates are excellent choices. I voted my gut reaction at the sight of one of them.

Interesting story how I got the bike. 4 yrs ago I got the Bike as a 60th Bday present from step son, He bought it from the original owner. The bike was last registered in 1982 and has 1243 orig miles. Eric was at work and a lady said to everyone in the office I need to get ride of a bike that was sitting in her backyard for years. he asked her what it was and how much, she said to you $300. The guy that owned it, her father-in-law, went to work on the Alaskan Pipeline and never rode the bike after he returned.

Just got this running, I restored it 4yrs ago but I never put in new pistons, just re-rung it. Only had 1243 orig mi, a little moisture had gotten onto the cylinders. Bike just wasn't running so good, I did realize how under powered it was until i got the bike running with new 1st over bore, I also fattened the fuel mixture, new coils and a brand new set of Delkevic headers. It has never ran as good as it is now,

Great story, rtb.  What happened to the stock exhaust in the pic above?  Rusted out??

Hey Stev-o

I'm keeping the stock exhaust, they have some surface rust and a little banged up, not from crashes but from things bumping into them through the years (kids in the back yard). The pipes are completely rust free.

I put the headers on just for a new look, and with new bore and carb rebuild its brought back to life. My Norton was getting way to much attention and my CB500 was getting a little jealous.  >:(

MauiK3 and Johnie,

Please feel free to post/summarize your build with some photos.  The voting members are often moved by the "story" behind the bikes.

Johnie's - Believe it or not I found this 78 CB550K at a rummage sale. It was there all weekend, but I decided not to go until the last day just to see if it was there. Was not even sure where it was, but took the KO for a ride and figured if I saw it fine if not no big deal. Looked like a good survivor with 9,800 miles on the clock. You guys know my deal is to refurbish these bikes back to the way they looked in the 70's when I was a teenager admiring them, but could not afford them. That is what I did here. The paint is all original and in great shape. Bike had a fairing, but the PO had the fork ears and all parts in a box for me. Took off the fairing and went from there. Did the usual of wheel bearings, tubes, tires, fork seals, chain, master / caliper, steering head, seat cover, etc. Painted the stands and black parts and did the engine. Polished the forks and engine cases. Chrome is OEM and in unbelievable condition. The OEM 4-4 exhaust just makes these bikes looks so good. I had harisuluv do my carbs as I ran out of time to learn the 550 carbs, plus with a kitchen remodel going and a 69KO getting my attention in the shop. It was a fun first time 550 project for me. Bike is FOR SALE listed here. I am just so spoiled by the 750 and I need the room. I will let someone else spin the clock over to 10,000 miles. Thanks for the nomination and great work guys!

Great bike, Johnie.  Too bad you are selling it so soon before you can enjoy all of that work.
