300 vs 341
« on: April 05, 2018, 04:51:08 PM »
I am contemplating springing for a set of repops from DSS. The 300's with removable baffle are $1495. The 341's are $400 less. My bike is a K1 with a K4 motor so it won't be a true collector's item. I could afford either but would not like to throw away $. Any advice out there from anyone who had to make a similar decision? I would prefer a louder less restrictive exhaust. Is there $400 worth of sound quality from the 300. I am dedicated to 4 into 4, as the look of the four exhausts, in my mind, is the true essence of the SOHC 4.

Go with the 300's...sound is best and turns heads...at least that is my humble opinion :)

Get the 341's and cut down the baffles lol.

300 (Yamiya no numbers) without baffles work really fine with bigger bore and more. 341 way too restrictive.
300 gave more rwhp on my bike than the even more open Yamiya Lotus Root pipes. The latter more torque and work with baffles too.
300 are the pipes.

I ride a K4 all stock with the 4 into 4.  If I desire more sound baffles can be removed or cut down.  If your motor is a  true K4 then the 341's are a good match if running stock carbs, air box etc.  That's how it came from the factory.  Just Saying.  Yes, I agree with you about the signature look of those four pipes.

+1 for the 341's....not worth the extra $$$$ for the 300's.  You'll be the only one [besides us] that knows the difference.

And you can do the Hondaman mod - drill 1/2" holes in the baffle...

I'll just throw my 200 yen in. I bought the "no number" Yamiya pipes, I think that's the same as 300's. They sound great, Yamiya sends the little sleeves to help line up the crossovers. The fit up was the only issue, it takes a little persuading.
I love the sound, it has that walking exhaust note at the back that is just unique.
I also wonder if the lack of interior baffling will help longevity by not trapping any moisture.
Also, and this may be true of all of them, I think they are coated with something on the inside.
I have a K3 and Hondaman said my head was a K2, build date was 11 of 72. The bike runs great, stock air box and carbs.

I Just received a set of 300 from DSS and have not installed them yet. I believe they are Yamiya no numbers as the box they come is has Japanese writing on it and Yamiya installation instructions inside.
Also shipped from PA to AZ with no shipping charges!
Hope to get my exhaust flange's back from the chrome guy today and start fitting them up this week end

Removed baffles and checked them inside so all are of correct and same model?
I got one HM300 replica pipe when I ordered the lotus root pipes. Found out when removing the baffles, 3 lotus root, one HM300. I got a replacement really quick.
My earlier order of HM300 (no numbers) were all correct
The 4-4 are tricky to mount first time if you have not done it before or long time ago. The front must be pressed on the head spigot as much as possible before the long rear bolt will fit thru both pipes and fit the frame. If front will glide out from the spigot, NEVER hammer, they will lock. Remove rear long bolt, let the go down a little and fron ca be pressed on as much as possible. In this position a strap around the pipes and cylinder+head can hold them until they are swinged up and the rear bolt with foot peg will fit.

No 2 pipe go on first, inside the side stand, then 1. Do not forget the rubber protections on 1, 2 for the side stand and center stand. there are small details that needs to be there.

DSS sell a new aftermarket center stand complete with everything. This is needed together with the 4-4 pipes

One 'good' thing about unleaded fuel, exhaust systems (and spark plugs) last much much longer without the chemical build up's from lead oxides
