cb400F shifter fab question.
« on: April 06, 2018, 02:49:59 PM »
I bought a cb400f shifter and only got the back foot lever part. I'm assuming the shifter spline is standard to something common so I should be able to cut down another shift lever, weld on a heavy wall tube, drill out the factory swivel end on the pedal and make a new rod with 2 new heim ends. Does that make sense and has anyone done it?

It seems like I read someone put 400F pegs and pedals on a 500 recently.

Here you go Don a pic of just the shifter as it sits complete. Someone may have a spare to offer you to save a custom fab job.

Thanks flyin. I actually have a 400 here, it needs a part from this set for the brake side but I'm thinking of another project for this set of pedals and pegs.

I'd assume most guys that have a shifter would prefer to keep it all together but there could be a front half floating around.

The shifter you have is probably from a 77-400f2, they are not the same.

I think the spline is common to almost any Honda from Trail 90s to CB750s, and some Kawasaki's, and possibly other makes. ;)

I believe it was a 77, had the yellow tank because I got it too. I'll do the homework then. Hoping for the lazy mans answer. lol.

Thanks for the input Scottly. Frankly, my idea was to build a 500 super sport to lure an old 500 guy into riding again.

The 77 f2 is the rare one, something like 3500us and 1500can were made 40 years ago.....   :-X

Yet they are less desirable than the 75-76. Oh well.
