You would have had to have been looking two lanes to the left to be ready for that one! Not normal.

I live about two miles from that intersection and go through it often.  It's scary even in a car.  It looks unassuming, but both of those roads are 45 mph speed limit, six lanes and super straight, so people routinely go 55 on them.  Add in people pulling into and out of parking lots on both sides, and plenty of people just not paying attention, and I feel like I just ran the gauntlet every time I make it through.

It's the border between Plano and Allen, TX.  But don't worry about trying to avoid it, because nobody comes here unless they have to!  ;D

Here's the intersection, for your viewing pleasure:

The rider was going North on Custer, and that patch of grass next to the empty field is where he ran to.

Ha. That one made it into Jalopnik and the anti-moto comments were strong.

Haha, I’m not surprised. But anti-moto!? How about anti-not paying attention?

A lot of non-riders seem to be of the opinion that if you ride a motorcycle you must have a death wish, so no matter what happens to you, even if it was 100% not your fault, it was still your fault just because you were there and sitting on a motorcycle.

The attitudes are even more psychotic toward bicycles.  People are unapologetic about endangering motorcyclists, but even more people feel that bicyclists deserve to be killed and they intentionally endanger them.  And many of those are fellow motorcyclists.  In the morning on my moto, some dude flying an American flag and wearing chaps gives me the peace sign as we pass each other... four hours later, the same guy is driving his Dodge Ram past me on my bicycle and tries to push me off the road.

Well, it is a cager website. They did try to bring on a moto guy a few years ago that made some headway with articles and reviews and then fusion axed him and you only get moto accident videos these days.
