Hello All!
I am now proud to say I’m an owner of a 1977 CB 550K. It has an F or Super Sport exhaust. I purchased the princess in Nov of ’06 for a paltry sum of $300. Actually my buddy found the gem on Craigslist Chicago. He, having built and rebuilt several bikes (Triumphs and Hondas), went to the Craigslist listing and called me up and said, “BUY IT NOW.” And I did. Well, I was at work at the time so he floated me the $$$ until I paid him back.
It sat for a year and looked as it was in the middle of a rebuild. It was clean as hell when we went to pick up the bike. The guy was in a pretty bad accident, and had to give this bike up (actually he had seven, but this was his last one).
I’m a huge fan of the café racer. Beezers, Nortons, Hondas, Kaws… and that’s what I intended to do with this rebuild. Vintage, yet simple. The only problem is, I’m no mechanic. But I’m a good study and I love to read. And that’s what I’ve been doing these past two months. I’ve read and reread the Haynes’ 550 manual as well as voraciously going through this great website.
Well, I’m off to figure this baby out. It won’t start, spark on 2 & 3, but not on 1 & 4. Coils are good, switched leads. But that’s for the tech section. You’ll definitely see my footprints there. I’ll also show my progress on the rebuild. Oh, yeah, I found a Dyna III electric ignition on her as well. Sweet.
