Bought some turn signals off Amazon... and they melted
« on: April 25, 2018, 02:14:27 PM »
Like the title says... I bought some front and rear turn signals off Amazon... and the wiring completely melted. Scariest thing to ever happen in my shop (and to my 1974 CB750K). I plugged my factory Honda stuff back in and it all worked perfectly (of course  ;D ).

Turn signals - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01FF8YIVS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Electrical specs on the website (I'm guessing this is my problem somehow)

Voltage: DC 12V
Wattage:10w x4

Please tell me oh wise Honda folks... did I screw this up based on the wattage? Or did I simply get what I paid for? I realized after ordering them that the fronts should be dual filament.

I definitely wired the fronts up completely wrong now that I'm looking at them.

Where they aren't dual filament, I had both wires hooked to the running light and blinker. No ground.  :-[

Although... I don't know why the rears didn't function. One melted and the other just stays dimly lit, steady on and won't blink.

So I have everything back together. Where these are two wired I only have the blinker wired, no running lights up front.

So now when I activate the signal to the left or right position the signals come on brightly for a moment and then hang half lit. Almost as if the flasher relay can't fully disengage. What could cause this?

Mechanical I can do... Wiring... Not my strong suit.

I'd try a new blinker and double check for grounds.

"4 x turn signal lights (Sensor Load Resistor Required, Not Included with the Package) "

Are these an LED bulb? Or more likely, a much smaller bulb vs the original 1156 bulb.  Standard relay requires load to function properly.  Also, if you only have single indicator on instruments, I am guessing it flicks both sides?
