Weaseled a plastic chainguard on my K4...
« on: April 25, 2018, 02:38:57 PM »
Took some trimming, heat gun and drilling but I managed to mount the plastic one in place of my bent up metal one. Had to have something- damned new chain is making a mess! Lol! Now to finish the carbs, swap out front turn signals and Im ready to take a few test runs. Did more work to the bike this winter than in the twenty years Ive owned it(save for when I first got it) Bob

Did you buy that chain guard new and is it a 550 or a 750 ? An early 1970 750 shorty undamaged plastic chain guard could be worth some good coin. Metal original ones are pretty easy to find.

Bought it. Made it fit. Its a lot lighter and I know it seems crazy to put a cb on a diet but the bike probably weighs close to 40lbs lighter than stock.  Bob

Not crazy at all, makes the bike accelerate and brake faster and handle better. My racer is down to 375 wet!

Yep I agree. Thats crazy light! Ive done stuff that cost little so far. (Light 4 into 1, no center stand, removed grab bar, turn signals, aluminum sprocket etc) I imagine getting down to 375 gets pricey. Sounds like a fun challenge though! Bob

Like anything, its the last little bit that takes the longest and cost the most. 400lb probably wouldnt kill a budget but after that you start getting rid of every little thing that doesnt make it run.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.
