Cant get cylinder back on CB550F?
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:25:19 AM »
So I am replacing my base gasket and I cannot seem to get the cylinder of my cb550 flush with the bottom end of the engine. Any ideas of what could be hanging this up? I am able to move all pistons with the kickstarter and all of the engine studs are not hung up on anything.

Is this gap normal and it will just compress when I install the head?

i definitely would NOT compress that down, something has to be getting caught up, is your timing chain accounted for? maybe its pinched in there?

Timing chain is accounted for. It moves freely and I could see it through the cylinder.

maybe it would be worth taking back off and trying the whole process over again, is he cylinder bank on backwards, easy to do i guess. make sure everything is correct and your oil dowels and o-rings are seated properly and try again, i've NEVER had to force a cylinder back on.

It seems like it's the oil control valve that's the issue. I cant seen to get the dowel pin like valve into the hole on the bottom end. Should these just drop in without any problem ?

Check that the cam chain tensioner is located in its correct place, drop the oil pan and you can see from below.

Think I found the issue. It's the oil control valve that's not mating with on the cylinder side. That's very strange..

 Incorrect dowel?
