Correct but as you go up in fuel needs you need to adjust float height. Pretty simple idea.
If float level is correct, IMS and pilot jet changes are needed to correct lean/rich mixture....not raising the fuel level.

Pilot jets only effect idle and float levels are not as important. But like I said, if you start adjusting mains and needle height it does become an issue especially when carbs are at full demand.

As I stated before, fuel supplied will always be more than maximum fuel needed(until fuel is exhausted)....its the way HONDA engineered it  :-\

Is it advisable to open the mixture screw a bit more than the prescribed 1.5 turns, and see if it helps even out the idle, before attempting a new jet or a shim?

Doesn’t opening the fuel-metering mixture screw achieve the same basic effect: more gas (richer) at idle?

Yes but not much difference past 1.5. Hondaman suggested 38 to 40 pilot jets for a good smooth idle. I kind of trust his opinion

1.5 turns from stock position that is...not 1.5 turns from seated.

Ok, you guys have me thoroughly confused. What exactly is your opinion? Mixture screws (which meter fuel on the PD42Bs) out 1.5 from seated? 3 from seated? Or something else?

I’m going to switch to #40 idle jets, but in the meantime, is a setting of ~3 turns from seated likely to help, or throw the whole thing off?

the pilot circuit doesn't stop,it adds to the entire mixture at full throttle aswell.

your learning all the time painted seat, more complicated automotive carbs have clever air bleed systems to shut down the idle circuit, some the idle circuit is fed through the main jets first.

From reading Hondamans stuff he doesn't really mention it has an effect on anything besides idle. I can see where it would effect across the board but it has to be very minimal.

dave is correct.   what mechanism in the carbs turns off fuel supplied thru the idle circuit, or the pilot jet when at WOT?  ::)
vacuum is vacuum....itll pull gas from all sources. the smaller volume sources are just maxxed.

Leave your float height stock.   2mm added fuel depth will not aide in fuel supplied into the carb bowl.  Honda already engineered it.
Fuel supplied > max fuel used

idle plug chop.
if mixture is lean, first richen idle with the IMS.
if the IMS gets past its useable range, go up in pilot jet size, and reset your IMS to stock.
idle plug chop, and adjust IMS again.

Its pretty simple....

I get it but if your idle mixture air/fuel mixture is set correctly at idle speed than its not even a real factor in off idle. The carb will be adjusted to the air fuel and it will remain a base setting through the throttle position. It's not a true factor.

Paintedseat (Michael Cox) - why do you continue to ignore me? I have sent you multiple private messages and attempted to contact you for over a month with no reply. You still have my carburetors and at this point I am considering them stolen by you. Did you use them on the bike that you are selling?

I need you to reply to me and let me know what is going on and where my carburetors are along  with the several hundred dollars worth of new Honda replacement parts.  If you want to settle this in small claims court we can, but surely you can do the right thing and not let it come to that.

Please reply to me and let me know what is going on.

If anyone else reads this and knows how to get a hold of a board moderator, please let me know so that I can speak with them about this as well.

In the pm I explained that my ultra sonic cleaner went down and I had to purchase a new one. I also let you know that with my job I have to go out of town for days to weeks at a time. And my father past away Saturday so I've been busy and this is the first day I have even been on hear in a week. I don't understand why you haven received the pms but I responded. I already rebuilt the first set and he has them and is very happy. Look I did them for free but I am going to do them right. I probably bit off more than I can chew doing this right now. The carbs are assembled and I am waiting on a accelerator pump to arrive because the one you included just would not pump so I ordered another Honda part to replace. Give me a second and I will go to my garage and take a picture for you.

I'm not a thief and your carbs will be rebuilt correctly. I do not understand why the pms did not go through to you. I reply via the tap talk app. Do you use that app too?

No I don’t use that app and I haven’t received a single PM since you replied that you had purple loctite on April 6th. Your replies should be saved in your sent box - you could post screen shots to show them. Either way, when I send you this pm on May 5th, it may give you a clue that I haven’t been receiving anything:

Hey, I’m trying to not be a jerk, but it’s been a month since I’ve heard from you and I’ve tried messaging you multiple times over the last week for an update. I’d like to know if you’re working on the carbs, haven’t started, found a problem, etc. I get that life happens, and if you haven’t started or finished I’ll be okay with it, but I’m not okay with me asking about my carbs and days going by without a reply when you are on the forum posting in threads but ignoring me.

Please send an update on my carbs, it doesn’t have to be long, but I need to know what’s going on.

Thank you
Nathaniel

Surely you can see why I would respond by posting the way I did when from my side I sent you carbs and complete oem rebuild kits and then from that moment on I hear nothing.

I'm set to receive PM’s - I received them from paintedseat until April 6th, just nothing since then. I also have pm’d other members in that time and received replies. Just a few days ago I pm’d the other guy he did carbs for to see if he had the same problem as me and he was able to reply to me just fine.

Maybe it was the app he was using... I’m just happy that it sounds like  I haven’t lost a good set of carbs.

Paintedseat, thanks for replying here and quickly. I’ll Email you so you can have my email address and we can correspond that way.
