Also was given a linear tracking Technics SL-DL5 linear tracking turntable that had a warped platter(something I've never see

) Fortunately I found a replacement on ebay for 36$. Also given a new stylus for the cartridge. It is a nice turntable but i don't like the inability to be able to pick up the tone arm and place it on whatever song I want to listen to. One has to close the top and cue the arm to the song. only a drawback if I want to listen to a particular song rather than entire LP

Sooooo................

I was at a local thrift store and discovered an old Dual 606 for $15. Bought it on the spot, brought it home, plugged in and luckily it worked fine. It has an Ortofon cartridge, sounds good but not sure of stylus age so i might buy one. No dust cover but a decent lower to mid level Dual. My favorite all time turntable was my old AR, not sure whatever happened with it but it is gone. The AR would track at 3/4 Gram with the Shure cartridge in it. Totally manual but one great turntable

An old set of Criterion bookshelf speakers bought at the same thrift store at 16$ for the pair. Lower end Criterions(they did make some really good, high end stuff back in the day--don't remember when that was

) that have a decent sound, not Boston Acoustic VR40 but OK.

My friend who had to wait 4 months for his operation due to a certain large box store home supply store and their insurance carrier wishing he would die first so they wouldn't have to pay) bought a pair of Tekton Lore speakers before he went in for surgery( btw he is lucky to be alive as the aneurysms burst when he was on the table). Wrong thread I know but my point is those Tektons are the best sounding speaker I've ever heard. 1000$ including delivery from Utah to PA

I have two auctions I go to every week David, never know what will be there. On the way to and fro from one of the auctions I stop at a couple local thrift stores. May be going more frequently as I decided to go part time at the giant hardware store where everyone wears orange aprons. Too much to do and not enough time when I work 5 days a week, plus I became a Grandfather a couple weeks ago. That is AWESOME. Hope you are doing well....Larry

receiver equals your usual stereo with built in tuner and switching for tape/aux/phono
intregated amp equals switching for tape/aux/phono/tuner(because the tuner is not built in)+power for speakers
amplifier equals just the power for the speakers...must have separate pre-amp to switch between various input components

would be happy with an amp too...I got plenty of tuners and pre-amps and there is not jack #$%* on the radio that I care to hear anyway

Congrats Larry, I'll never be a grandpa, but that's OK, it means I'll live forever, becuz once you become a grandparent, your days are numbered. I bought this Marantz stereo for my garage last year, was happy to pick it up for around $30 USD, started looking on Ebay and Gumtree (like Craigs List) for a turntable, and gave up, silly prices for anything with "Marantz" stencilled on it, it seems?

Had to work Easter

so when I came home I decided to take the Ninja 600 for its first spin of the year. 25 miles later it dies in the middle of Amish country. Stone dead battery

So I'm in front of a house waiting for help when this Amish family comes out headed for a beautiful Spring night stroll. Father asks what is wrong, he then heads into his shop brings out a battery and jumper cables. Ninja starts right up and I am able to make it home. I miss kick starters....Larry

Well if the battery was stone dead a kicker wouldn't have done much anyway Larry. A couple of weeks ago I went to start my K2 "Bitsa" with it's new (expensive) Motobatt gel cell battery, and while I had enough power for idiot lights, not enough juice to use the electric leg. Luckily there was enough for the kicker, and it started right up. I took it for a 2 hour ride and it was fine when I started it up on Saturday for the ride to the Broadford Easter Bike Bash, so I'm not sure why it acted up, except to say it hasn't been near a battery charger since I installed it. Kinda weird........

Only thing I did when I got home was put a voltmeter across the terminals while it still was running .. No rise in voltage when revved. It was a new Scorpion battery last year... I'll check it out after I get over being pissed off( at the bike not the Amish man who helped).

Well that sounds like a bad charging system Larry? That's the standard test I use for CB750 stators, which (for me at least) always seem to be the first thing to go? I reckon I've got 2 or 3 bad stators here? Electrical issues were pretty common on Kawasaki's and Suzuki's of the 1980's.

You've mostly come across bad stators heh( that's Canadian) Terry? I've never seen one since I started working on bikes back in the late 60's, most always rectumfinders have been the main culprit. BTW, it is a 1991 Ninja 600, no problems other than the leaky petcock when it was put into winter storage...Larry

Rectifiers commonly fail on some bikes...

CX500s and GL500s eat their stators, cooked until windings fail or high speed or low speed coils fail...

Well I charged the battery on the Ninja Worrier and this happened

Shut it off and it stopped charging when I restarted so I did some snoop doggy dog investigation and found this

Amazing the bike even started with the loose starter connection, tightened it up but still no charge. More eyeballing and found this. Not good

Plan is to cut the connector out and see if there is any stator output. Looks like Terry was right on with diagnosis. On the plus side I was at an auction the other night. Table lots of boxes, high bidder by the box-for some reason no one outbid me at $4 for choice. Here was my selection.

All 7 for that price, couple are 1/4 to 1/2 full but the rest are either 1/2 full or more, one even unsealed...Looks like I have to have a party

No fun on the overheated connector...I hope you caught it early enough to not have a fried Stator. The Goldwing and CXs will often cook their stator connectors and it is common to hardwire them soldering the wires if you opt to not redo the connectors entirely replacing both sides. Dirty connectors can cause very high currents to flow.

Nice score on the cheap booze if you drink it....there is at least a little variety. The rum if spiced might be good with pineapple juice.

I have to finish the mowing before going to have a CT scan this afternoon...time to get at it.
