honda cb750 k0 main stand issue
« on: May 07, 2018, 06:22:55 AM »
I have a 1970 cb750 with a main stand problem. When I go to put bike on main stand it is as if the stand goes beyond its locked position and drops both wheels onto the ground making it very difficult to get off the stand. It is if past owner has been sitting on the bike on the stand and compressed or worn something to the point where the stand goes beyond expected travel. Is this a common fault and is it possible to repair?

I have compared other stands and there does not seem to be any real visual differences making me think it is a frame issue.

The bike is currently a rolling chassis with the engine in place.

Any advice or assistance in repairing this would be appreciated

Hi Gary Brown, and welcome to sohc4. I was going to say, put up a photo but you may not be able to do that yet. So here is a pic of mine you can eyeball for differences. K1 or K0, not much diff here methinks. Do you have factory shocks, wheel, tire? There is about an inch below the rear tire.
I have seen a few threads about rusted frame tubes, hope that's not your problem.

It's a thing that always works so I never looked to see what exactly is the stop that the center rests against. Have you looked under yours yet to check for crushed or bent  tubes?

I even have a center that was narrowed and offset to one side to work with a hooker 4/2 header. I need to get on the floor and look under one.  Your bike isn't lowered is it?

Seconding this -- most likely shocks. And if it's not, likely bigger problems as mentioned...

I rolled the rear tire of my lowered bike onto a piece of 2x6 before going onto the stand, you might try that even if yours isn't lowered.

+1 on my K0.

I changed the center stand but that did´nt change anything. Must be a frame issue

i had the same issue, turns out the frame tube where the stand butts to was a little bent, not for the purists but simple fix was tap a couple of 8mm threads in the stand where it rests on the frame and screw a couple of bolts in and let the bolt heads take up the gap, can grind the heads to the perfect size if needed, bit of black paint and done.whole operation took 1 hr, not visible when stand is up or down.
