Another non-charging thread

Hi all

The 75CB550F is not charging properly. I have read through many threads and have gone through all the diagnostics including cleaning every connection and making sure they are a good connection. I have jumped a wire from the white wire that supply’s the regulator to the positive terminal on the battery and ran the bike. It did put out 14.7 volts ~4,000 rpms when I decided to stop the test in case I popped bulbs and fuses. The test was done on a cold engine.

Anyway tonight I did the terminal clean and switch clean etc and tested it again to see if there was improvement. It would put out almost 14 volt at 4,000 rpms however (like before) the more the bike was run and tested and regulator adjusted the voltage output dropped off. Essentially the hotter the bike got the worse the charging system worked. This is with both the original rectifier/regulator and a new unit, same results.

The only thing non stock is a Dyna S electronic ignition with factory coils, I did not install the Dyna S. Also a new battery that I had tested and passed a load test.

Your thoughts.

The regulator black wire supply's the regulator, and the white wire is the output of the regulator that supplies the field coil. By jumping the white wire to the battery positive terminal, you have bypassed the regulator and turned the charging system full on. The 14.7 volts means all the other charging system components are working properly. Measure the voltage drop between the battery + and the black regulator wire.
