1973 Honda CB350F
« on: May 15, 2018, 09:01:05 AM »
Hello All,

Just want to introduce myself and my new/old bike. I purchased a 73' CB 350F with roughly 20,000 miles. The bike runs pretty well but I will be performing a valve check, oil change, and points check soon. I plan to try and stay tame on changes I make to it. Stuff that can be easily changed back if I end up selling and buyer wants something close to original. I will be posting some pics on the progress. Already started so it will be coming soon.

Got the new/old tank on. The owner provided an OEM tank in great condition that he ordered but didn't install. I installed the tank and switched the petcock. However, after the switch the carbs started to leak. I believe I might have damaged the o ring on the bottom float of the petcock. Could have also just needed replacing. I went ahead and ordered a rebuild kit for it.

Also on order is some Hagon shocks since the stock ones bounce me around like a pogo stick. Ordered them from Dave Quinn per some recommendations on here. Great customer service. Can't wait for that. I also installed some bar end mirrors which I'll take a photo of later. Like I said, just small stuff that can be reversed. Well shocks might take a little more work to swap but you get the picture. Also ordered some side bags to put in place of the side covers until I can get them painted. Will try and paint match the tank if possible. Also, ordered these leather wraps for the grips.

I also plan to possibility replace the exhaust with a 4 into 1 Delkevic but still far off in the plan. I also want to try and find a nice brown seat I can put on without modifying frame. If anyone has suggestions or recommendations for that please chime in. I will keep stock seat though. Don't want to reupholster.

Forgot to mention it did have an oil leak coming from the oil path that looks like a tappet cover. Ordered an O ring to see if that will fix it.

Looks sharp, wish I had that tank, would have been able to keep mine all original.

Update!! I've been doing some work trying to diagnose a leaky carb lately along with some other odds and ends. However, I was excited that my shocks came in!!

Good luck with that......I'm in the same boat.

May have to pull the carbs again, and what a ..pita.. that was.

For me it’s the #3 carb which overflows after turning the fuel tap on if the bike has been sitting for a while.  I usually give it a tap with a rubber mallet  but today might be the day I try and fix it properly as I have a few other maintenance items on the list.

It's actually not too bad. I do stuff in stages. Yesterday I pulled out the floats, needles, seat for inspection. The needles look fine to me. #2,3 and 4 look like the o rings on the seats have shrunk a bit. I'm assuming that's the culprit. Either way I ordered 4 needles and seats with o rings yesterday. The other thing I'll do is clear the passages while I have it open and off the bike.

I did try that but don't think it helped. Just ended up taking them apart and ordering new needles and seats.

Update: I'm pretty sure I've taken care of the leaky carb issue. It had to do with the needle getting caught up on the tang of the float and not being able to shut off gas. I just had to adjust the angle and raise the float height to about 23mm for it not to catch. Also, I had to order a new wavy washer for my petcock since it was dribbling gas in off position. My leather wraps came in and I covered the stock grips. I think it looks ok and changes the look without being too much of a hassle. My side bags also came in but as you can see they are way smaller than I expected. I will have to look for a different solution. Shocks were installed and they feel a million times better than stock. Working on looking for a brown seat that I can attach without frame modifications. Might try a cheaper eBay option and see if I can make it work.

Looks like you are making progress!!  If you havent already, you may want to change your fork oil to get up to par with you new rear shocks.  I just changed mine, and it was some nasty looking 40yr old fluid in there.

I might do that eventually, my plan was to ride it a little, do some minor mods and sell. So I don't want to invest too much at the moment.

Here's an updated look on the seat I'm trying out. Also ordered some new brown bags that are bigger in place of the side covers.

All done with aesthetics for now. Bags came in and look good with stock seat or brown one. Really happy with this.
