CB650 bad reputation
« on: May 19, 2018, 04:01:26 PM »
Hi!

Found an beautiful CB 650 in excellent original condition for a decent price, and the plan is to pick it up next monday. I all ready have an old timer bike for the fun rides, so this bike is for practical use and weekend trips with wifey, and need to be somewhat reliable. I know, I should probably get a newer bike for this but I think all more modern (decently priced) bikes look horrible.

I was pretty excited, but then I was told they have a big charging problem, and after googling quite a bit it almost seems like no one is able to ride it for more than a year without changing the rotor and regulator, is it really that bad? Seemed easy to install a new one, but pretty expencive if you have to do it often..

I've always considered the CB 650 as a pretty modern bike, and I'm a little disappointed to hear that a lot of people are not happy with it. Been considering the CX 500 instead, seems a bit more reliable but then you'd have to remove engine from the frame to work on the charging system..

Anyone got any good experiences with the CB650?

Hi Eirik, I've had my 650 on the road for 8 or 9 years, have heard the rotors can go but have not experienced any problems. Same on any old bike. make sure all the electrical connections are clean and tight. happy riding.

Welcome to the world of the DOHC Honda. I know yours isn't a DOHC BUT you have the product that represents the direction Honda was going in.
