tubeless Lester mag valve stems?
« on: April 25, 2022, 01:54:52 PM »
My tubeless V rated radial tires are here, the TL Lesters are properly cleaned up but the bikemaster valve stems that came today are too short to get more than one thread on the inside. It appears they are made for a rim no thicker than approx. 1/8".
Can anyone recommend an 8.3mm valve stem that can reach through a cast aluminum rim?

Yeah, I just went all through this but can't remember what I ended up with...a couple things I can tell you.  Lester apparently had different standards for different rim sizes  and/or models and/or changed throughout the years...so if it worked for someone else, does not mean it will work for yours...at least 3 different diameters and at least 2 different lengths required.  My 18x3 rear and 18x2.5 front required 2 totally different valve stem lengths and diameters.  I did manage to scrounge up 2 stems that worked in a matter of a couple days, 1 I had in a collection of car parts, the other was found at local mega dealership, that I would never allow to touch my rims or tires.  Good luck.
If it works good, it looks good...

My old memory tells me Kawasaki tubeless valves from late 70's are same dia and length as tube type BUT its been many years, and beers, since then so dont quote me!

I think the stems in mine just came from AutoZone or O'Reilly, but I did have to drill out the hold slightly larger for them to fit.

One of the Honda dealers in CO Spr mounted my tires but refused to do them tubeless

Don.... I used a pair of angled bolt ins just like I use on the race car mags. They are rubber gaskets on both sides and bolt in. From memory, I think I had to drill out the hole in the mag slightly, but it worked perfectly.....

My rims are labeled TL and at least the rear has safety beads. I don't want to lose the speed rating by putting tubes in them. Someone will mount them, even if it's me.
I'm going by the former Harley shop to see what they have. The top of the Lester stem hole was not finish machined. I used the manual fine cut milling device.

Chiefum, Harley has the same valve stem. I got two in town today, while killing a half hour before getting my race trailer out of storage.
The Harley shop lost its franchise and appears to be closing.

Good to know about the Harley part working too.
