This should make my life easier ......Tire Changer.
« on: May 18, 2018, 08:35:15 PM »
Just picked up a used No Mar Cycle Hill changer.
 Looks like it's all there.
Anyone used one? Pros or cons? The guys that sold it upgraded.

I have the Harbor Freight version - or rather I used to have one (tossed it).  I found that I would have preferred a pneumatic when dismounting tubeless tires.  On tube tire - no biggie the sidewall's just not that stiff.

FIRM mounting to the floor - any slop and it only makes the effort that much more.

I changed or dismounted my first today.
A little slow clamping.  Now I know where to put the clamps.
I didn't have fluid but bead broke too easy, May it got ridden with the flat, bike is a writeoff..
Tire came off very easy .,dry..
If most are 2 or 3 times the effort, it's still extremely easy.
Looking forward to mounting a used tire on the rim tommorow.
It's a factory chrome Harley rim.. alloys..  the No Mar plastic  ended removal tool is a huge  help.

Yeah, slip changing with a tire iron and you are rewarded with a scratch, so no mar changer is a good thing.  I found a place in Tucson when I lived there that was inexpensive. They were even inexpensive with a $5 charge extra since I was furnishing the tires bought elsewhere.

Should tires be coated with anything in off season to lessen oxidation of the rubber.  Doubt you can put anything on them that would put plasticizers back in the tire or would not affect integrity if it were able to soften a tire.
Racing RC cars we would use compounds on the tires to make the foam rubber have more grip.  Wintergreen oil was in several of those formulas.

It was like a Vick's vapor rub odor in the place and could give you a massive headache after a while.  Too many people used too much and as a result air was rare and some racers could not race carpet in winter from the headaches it would give them.  Some places started banning the wintergreen odor carpet compounds as others came out.
Drag racers still use tire compounds applied to the tires.
