    I have wanted a CB77 305 Super Hawk, ever since I saw them come into central Arkansas, back in the early 1960's. After high school, I went into the Air Force and, after about a year & a half, I managed to be sent to Japan and I started my search, to buy a Super Hawk, as soon as I could. I could not even FIND one that wasn't even for sale, much less one that was. I did manage to get a 1966 CB72 250 Hawk & changed it up a bit. So, fast forward to about 10-11yrs ago (I think) a member here, named okie (who, among many others, I had become pretty good friends with, told me that if I would come out to the Tulsa Oklahoma area, where he lived, he would "give me" most of a Super Hawk! So, my Dad and I went to his place and loaded it all up. So, at that point, I started checking, to see what all I had and what I was going to have to try to come up with. As I could, I worked on the "mock-up" 9I wasn't looking at building a bone stock model now.  The 1st photo is my 1966 CB72 Hawk that I had, in the Air Force.

Look forward to seeing your project.  I still have my dad's 66 Superhawk.  He rode it to work when he was in his early 60's.  Also he took trips to see his brothers who lived about 140 miles away.

    So, anyway, life happened to just get things all out of sorts, in 2009 & I had so much going on, that I didn't get much of anything else done and ended up with a close friend putting my motorcycles, parts & such, in storage, at his place, up until about a month ago. Also, a little bit back, I got to where I could get things set up, at my place (which now, was my Dad's place, that I inherited from him) I started bringing my tools & motorcycles home. My buddy, had managed to come across a Super Hawk & since he had wanted to build one & knew about my wanting one as well, after he built this one & had it a little bit, he proposed a trade between us, that would leave me, with the Super Hawk & we made that deal. SO, I finally have my Pure Stock Super Hawk. So, now, I am in the process, though slowly, of building a Super Hawk "My Way". It won't be a fast build, as I have a number of things going and will be working on it, as I can. So, pleas have patience with me.  ;) I have a few photos, so give an idea, of where I hope to go, with this one.

    Thank you, Gary. After seeing those I have, on here, over the years, gonna take a lot, to come even close to measuring up. I just hope I can get this done, like I am imagining.  Pretty cool about your Dad and his Super Hawk and you having it.  The 1966 models seem to be plentiful, as the one I have, that my Buddy built & then worked out a trade, so I would end up with it, is also a 1966. The one I am building, is actually using a titled CP77 frame & a Cl77 motor, that was said to run, but not be pretty (I have an extra crankcase, head & all the components of another head and anyway, IF this motor is a decent runner (which I will check it out), then I have enough decent parts, to be able to make it a decent looking unit & have a CB77 marking & serial number.

   Just a photo of my CB72 Hawk, stripped down, for drag racing, years ago, when I was stationed in Northern Japan. Had a Sears Moped gas tank, small, that was not only small, had a nice shape, but mounted with a single bolt, through the gas tank, almost vertically. Heavy, restrictive factory mufflers were replaced with hollow Reverse Cone Megaphones. Motor was only slightly modified. And, the licker, was the seat. I bought it from the local small Honda dealer in Misawa Japan and I honestly, at that time, did not realize the Value and fact that it was the Honda Factory Race Seat. Of course, it has been gone, for a long time now, as are the "Clip-On" racing handle bars. It ran pretty good though and sounded beautiful, through the hollow megaphones. And I have included a couple shots of others. 

   So now, I am working on putting together a mock-up, to change up, the look, but in an appealing way. Now, I
   don't have much, in the way of funds, to add to this build, so, I will be working mainly, with what I have.
 I have a "mini fairing" (I am not sure of the exact term for it), a setoff the flatish handlebars, I have mounted a   
 set of gauges basically on 2 different gauge mounts (that I bolted together, to get the angle I wanted & my close
 friend, who is like a brother, to me, made a cafĂ© style seat that I think looks pretty good (only the seat padding is awful thin, for my behind to be sitting on (may have to add a bit of padding to that. I want to keep just enough of the Super Hawk look, to give a hint of he basic heritage of it. I had bought a CP77 frame, complete with a title. I also found a CL77 motor, on ebay, that was supposed to be a runner, but not pretty. Well, from what little bit, I have checked, on this motor, looks pretty good, under covers and such. There are no broken fins or such. The serial number spot though, is pretty scarred and such, that you can't make hardly any of the numbers out. But, I have an extra Super Hawk motor & an extra crankcase, as well, along with spares of several things. So, I figure I will get to where I can install the motor & get it to where I can see if I can fire it up (checking clearances & such, beforehand). And if  it starts and runs good, then, my thoughts are to remove the motor, have a crankcase ready & carefully swap it out. I will also swap out the Top plate of the head (as the CL is different from the CB top mount plate), swap out the camshaft & end caps (to include adding the tachometer drive as well and when I am through, it will be a CB motor, instead of a CL.


    Now, I would like to say that, any ideas, that anyone might have, feel free to throw ideas out there. might be something I might would like to and could do, might not, but never know.  ;)

what cafe seat do you have on there?  I like the mini-fairing.  Also was thinking of a small bug catcher fairing of some sort.

        Thank you, Joe. I've been wanting to get on this, for some time, but "Life" got in the way and has taken awhile to get to where I could get my things back together.  The seat, was made by a close buddy (like a Brother) The pad might be a little thin, for my behind, but we'll see. Be looking forward to see you start on Rose's CB77 as well. I am not sure how long it will take for me to get to where I can really get on with making decent progress on it.  ;)

 I'm guilty of having been a cb750 snob. Years ago, my cousin was showing us his Super Hawk and I wasn't impressed at all. Now I find myself wondering if it's sitting in his garage waiting for me to save it.

     That's understandable Don, I mean "Different Strokes for Different Folks". While I have a lot of feeling for these motorcycles, from that period, I have sometimes found myself suddenly feeling interested in yet another model myself. Hoping you will post it up, if  you do end up moving on with that one.  ;)

      Probably right, Larry, about that padding. My rear end might have gained some padding, of it's own, but it still would be nice to have at least SOME comfort, from that seat, eh?  ;)

      I meant to thank you, for wishing me Good Luck and also, I went on there and saw a factory racing 5 spd trans, for the CB77 and I sure wish I could swig one of those. but nearly $2,000, is way more than I have in this already and way beyond my means. unfortunately.

       not much to add yet, things going on, have gotten me distracted. main thing is that my Father-in-law fell, in the bathroom & broke 2 ribs, just a few days ago and has been in the hospital, ever since. he isn't in real good shape. Doesn't help, that Wife's family is in Florida (Winter Garten) and we are in Arkansas. SO, Michelle is looking to fly down, in a just a few days. She's going to be away, for about 2 weeks, so things are going to be kinda strained, around here, for a bit. Not sure, at this point, just how it is going to go, with my Father-in-law.

       So, until things get more settled, I'm going to be busy, taking care of things, around here. Bill
