Could be the swingarm, easy to straighten.  If it's too far too chain side I suspect bent.
Will add more Info later.

OK so you guys were right about the DOHC hub!!  I have the correct backing plate (thanks Frank!) and the whole wheel and spacers fit perfectly with a free spinning brake!
I was about to celebrate and then noticed the chain line  ::)  It doesn't look good to me. Comments?
dont know what year the frame is,but if you have a k7/k8 swingarm on a pre k7 frame it will throw the chain line out,as the k7/k8 arm is 10mm wider on the drive side, can not tell if your shock is vertical when viewed from the rear, just something to check.billp

Neither shock is vertical...they both splay outward at the top?? The frame is a K2 and the swingarm could be any year I'm starting to think..  If I move the wheel over about 8mm, the chain will line up and the wheel should be more centered as well so I'll try that next I guess.

Innthe pic of your sprocket on page 3, the lower mount is 180 degrees out, maybe for clearance ? To chain.  You can the flanges piece off the sprocket.
Can you stand bike up straight and get avrear shot ?

Are you referring to the lower shock mount Frank? They are Koni shocks and the bolts thread in from the outside which looks correct.
I don't have the wheel on now but here are a couple more pics. Thx.

More pics. I'm starting to think it's not that far off as it is.  5mm right might be better but necessary? Comments welcome!

the lh shock is splayed out the most, looking at your pic, thinking the swingarm is wrong, too bad you did not have a known pre k7 to compare.bill

Does the K7 have this kind of chain guard mounting pattern?

That is a k 6 of older swingarm.
Ok so that matches the K2 frame. And thanks to you I have a DOHC rear hub that works. The only thought is if that hub moves the driveline left a bit or not. Do I worry about trying to shift it 5mm right with custom spacers for better chain lineup or am I done here?

When  you are looking at your sprocket alignment,  is the rear wheel semi snug and lined up to the marks ?
 Or Loosey Goosey ?
If it's the last one, yes it can look way off.

your chain should run straight,no matter what,if the swingarm is right and the sprocket holder is right, the only suspect left is the hub,if moving the wheel to get the chain in line causes the wheel to be out of line in the frame it might be an issue.bill

Ok thanks for your help everyone! To put this thread to rest, I have it lined up perfectly with those spacers now that everything is tightened up. I put a straight edge along the chain line to check which tells all.
Frank I'll contact you regarding these shocks later. I'm trying to get this done for the 'vintage in the valley' show on the 19th.
