Cb350f oil control rings
« on: May 26, 2018, 01:17:13 PM »
Hi all new member,

73 CB350f was running but leaking oil took engine down to case head, cylinder removed.
Engine is still in bike.

Ordered new piston rings and engine gasket set.

Ok the problem.

I have broken 2 of the new one piece oil rings trying to install the cylinders.
Any tips or tricks for doing the cylinder install??

Should I get the 3 piece oil rings instead of the one piece rings??

Are 3 piece rings available??

Thanks for any advice.

The 1-piece rings work better in this small bore, high-RPM engine. I have not seen 3-piece rings for this one.

When installing them, I first break the inside edge of the oil ring at the open ends, as they often have a slight burr right there. If you're worried about scratching the piston lands (which is only an Internet problem, not a real one...) on the way down, slip a thin sheet of brass or a feeler gage alongside the piston and let the ring slide down over it, instead.

I have just received some rings from Cruzinimage for the 350f the one piece oil control ring has a step on one side does this go to the top or bottom there are no other marks on the rings.
Cheers.

Another thought: did you set the ring gap clearance? Sometimes they are oversize a bit.

I haven't seen that type before: can you make a picture of it?
