Anyone see Forged in Fire tonight (5/28)
« on: May 28, 2018, 09:06:30 PM »
They made knives from pieces of a motorcycle.

I couldn't tell what kind of bike - looked like a 450 Nighthawk, but I could be wrong.

I won't spoil the show for you - in case anyone cares, but it did bring up the question as to what exactly you could use on a bike for forgable steel.  Most of the pieces on a bike are either soft or tubes.  Only solid piece of steel on a bike I can think of off the top of my head is the rear axle, everything else is a hollow tube.  Maybe the camshaft - assuming it's not cast iron.

Connecting rods, cranks are. Cams are cast iron.
Rockers and shafts are steel, so are the transmission shafts

I can't imagine hammer welding a chain into a piece of solid steel. I'd probably watch more often if they made something more useful than a sword.
Slicing a gelatin torso isn't my idea of fun entertainment. It may have something to do with my across the street neighbor getting sliced up by a crazed re-enactor with a homemade sword. I guess he found it useful though.

The show is cool, but I don't care for the new one, Forged in Fire: Cutting Deeper, where they get all macho and cut hanging chickens, etc. I want to watch them MAKE knives, not compete on a course...
This show is also an OSHA nightmare for safety violations, with no guards on a 6" wafer wheel Metabo, no GLOVES on most of them, and other assorted 'why do I still have fingers after the dumba$$ sh1t I just did on TV...'
Other than that, they have some entertaining stuff going on lol

one bike as a 81 or 2 650.   Looked in decent shape.    the other was a small twin.
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

Thinking about it for a while now, I'd probably have smashed the case and used the clutch shaft.  Nice reasonably long piece of good quality steel.
