Amongst all the piston engine fighters from that era that had a menacing purposefull look combined with exceptional performance, in my humble opinion what ranks in next best position to the P51 is the Do 335 Ffeil. There is a story somewhere of one that escaped from Berlin in the closing days and outran everyone that tried to intercept it.

I think that P51 is in the air and space annex at the Dulles airport, not in DC.

 Way too cool! Only thing I have ever flown in, is a few commercial flights, while in the service, along with a few trips in a C-130 and C-141. Did try to get a ride in the back seat of an F-4C Phantom, while I was a crew chief on one, while in the Air Force & during some TDY time in South Korea. Couple of guys got to go up, but not me. Oh well, I Did get to crew one and I still feel good about that. Just me.

P51 was always my favorite.   To be 18 years old and be given a plane with a V12 supercharged engine and 6 .50 cal Browning machine guns.  "Son don't come back till your out of fuel and ammo".  Wow!  I can't imagine the fear and excitement
