I'm in a quandary....
« on: May 30, 2018, 03:20:58 AM »
I have 2 bikes...a '72 CB500K1 which I've spent probably AUD1500 basically bringing back to almost original from cafe.  Restomod is the term I guess.  :-\
The other is a '78 Suzuki GS750E in almost stock/original condition which I'm planning to spruce up with new paint/decals and a 630 to 530 chain/sprocket mod.  It runs great, just like the Honda.

Trouble is, I'm a retiree (10 yrs now) and can't really afford both, as much as I'd like to keep both!  :(

I know this is a Honda SOHC4 forum, so any responses may be a tad biased, but that's cool.  Let it rip folks!!

That really is a tough decision.  I would ride both of them extensively before deciding
If it works good, it looks good...

I may be a tad biased ( and possibly drunk on cheap cider ) but I've never seen the point of little people bikes,  get rid of the 500, keep the GS
I used to have one in a previous life and until the electrics suzuki'd it was a fine motorcycle which I missed until I got a GSX11....then a few Hondas (750/836), then a Vmax
Anyway, keep the GS

Hmmm....I also have both bikes *(only my CB550 runs).
The CB550 is at 25,000 miles and the problems seem to be getting
progressively constant.
If both ran I would keep the GS750. Just my 2 cents worth.

With old motorcycles its always nice to have a spare one in the wings if the other one goes down. Does it cost you guys money to just own one if its not on the road like a yearly tax or something ?
Since I am a Suzuki fan also as well as CB750's and have no emotional attachment to the 500,s I would probably let that one go. Sure its will be a tough decision for you though.

What type of riding do you do?  If mostly City, the 500 will do.
If you do a fair amount of fast highway riding the Suzi makes more sense.

Personally, I'd keep both...
'74 "Big Bang" Honda 750K [836].....'76 Honda 550F.....K3 Park Racer!......and a Bomber!............plus plus plus.........

having sobered up a bit now, a more practical solution...

do you have classic/club rego in WA, in Vic we have a scheme where you get 90 days a year on each bike which costs about a quarter of the normal cost, you could put both on classic for half the price of one normal rego

Thanks for the responses guys!  I'll keep both for the time being but will sell the CB500 after I've done a bit of remedial cosmetic work on the GS.
